Look closely enough at the crystals in one part of Torin's Passage (1995), and you spy an unexpected cameo from Sailor Saturn: one of a couple of Sailor Moon refs in the game.

The art director revealed in 1997 that he scanned it in from a trading card as a tribute.

First tattoo is officially done!

My favourite glimpse into that timeline is Player Two Start: An SNES-CD Timeline. It was released over three years from 2013 on AlternateHistory dot com, and it's presented via fake interviews, charts, articles in games mags, and a lot of other cool stuff all the way up to the year 2000.

Ohhh, the delicious concept designs. This one in keeping the sleek black hi-fi aesthetic that was the design of a classy piece of AV hardware into the 2000s. Black or silver was classy. Anything else was not.

A monochrome technical drawing of three console designs, one like a squashed Japanese/PAL SNES, another a chonky double-stacked SNES and CD unit kind of like the vertically stacking Mega CD, and a longer design that looks a bit like a Sega Master System. All have cart slots and CD drives.

What might have been: Patent schematics and concept designs for the Sony Play Station dated February 1992. Back when it was going to be both a CD-ROM add-on for existing Super Famicom/SNES and a standalone combined unit from Sony: the Play Station.
