So what happened with the Big Votes in the Lords on the Employment Rights Bill?

Unelected Tory and Lib Dem Lords passed amendments that undermine Labour's Manifesto - on Day 1 rights, Guaranteed Hours and Repealing the TU Act

Over to MPs now, to stand up for workers & their mandate from the public

Tory and Lib Dem Lords have voted to SCRAP Labour's new protections against being unfairly sacked from day one, meaning workers must wait 6 months for this to happen.

But this isn't over. When the Employment Rights Bill returns to the Commons, MPs can safeguard day one unfair dismissal protections.

Theyโ€™re back at it again - the Tories and Lib Dems have worked hand in hand in the Lords to smash loopholes in Labourโ€™s right for everyone to have a guaranteed hours contract.

They're siding with bad bosses over workers. Now over to the Commons to make sure working people get the rights they need.

Last year Labour were elected with a mandate for CHANGE โ€“ and their commitment to strengthening employment rights with the New Deal for Working People was spelled out in the Manifesto.

Itโ€™s time for unelected Tory and Lib Dem Lords to get out of the way, and stop blocking key manifesto commitments.

And it wouldnโ€™t be the Tories without an attack on the right to strike โ€“ undermining Labourโ€™s Manifesto commitment to repeal the 2016 Act by retaining the 50% turnout threshold

No other organisations are have turnout thresholds, and you donโ€™t improve industrial relations by undermining union rights

Thereโ€™s also a Crossbench amendment, backed by the Tories last time, to unpick the 2016 commitment on Political Funds: proposing that the Toriesโ€™ โ€˜opt-inโ€™ is retained โ€“ undermining unionsโ€™ right to campaign politically, and giving unions different and more draconian rules than other organisations.

Itโ€™s not just the individual workersโ€™ rights that the Lords have set their sights on โ€“ theyโ€™ve also been busy undermining Labourโ€™s Manifesto commitment to repeal the 2016 Trade Union Act.

Tory peers have been very creative and have designed a new Super Loophole to undermine any of the rights in Part 1 of the Bill, by creating a new kind of work called โ€˜seasonal workโ€™

This undermines the right to a Guaranteed Hours Contract, protection from unfair dismissal and Fire and Rehire & more

The right to protection from being UNFAIRLY sacked (you know, the right to not be sacked on a whim) โ€“ Labourโ€™s Manifesto set out this as a right from day one at work.

The Tory amendments would scrap that day one right, and mean workers have to wait 6 months for protection against unfair dismissal.

The right to have a Guaranteed Hours Contract that reflects the hours you work โ€“ the Lib Dems are adding a loophole โ€“ so workers can โ€œopt outโ€ from the right [AKA employers can โ€˜suggestโ€™ their workers opt out].

The Bill already says workers can reject an offer of a Guaranteed Hours Contract.

Quick reminder โ€“ Labour were elected last year with a stonking mandate from the public to implement the New Deal in full, and strengthen employment rights.

Now, Tory and Lib Dem peers are voting to smash loopholes in those workplace rights.

Letโ€™s see what the unelected Lords are up to today.

Big day today, as the Employment Rights Bill is back in the House of Lords.

Last time, Tory and Lib Dem peers backed bad bosses, to undermine key new rights in the Bill. MPs in the Commons sent their amendments packing, and now weโ€™re back for round twoโ€ฆ..

This is why they call it PING PONG.

Whether it's day one rights, the right to a guaranteed hours contract, or the repeal of the Trade Union Act - this is the change working people voted for, and the Government must stand firm against unelected Tory and Lib Dem Lords lining up with the Bad Bosses to water down workers' rights.
