Common Quaker (Orthosia cerasi).
A recent Common Quaker for #MothFaceFriday. This moth played dead so convincingly that I thought it was dead.

Oak Beauty (Biston strataria). NFY.
This morning's Oak Beauty NFY. To be honest, I wasn't expecting to see one this year, after its disappointing absence last year.

After ejecting him out of the pot and fridge, I think I startled him a little. All he could do was stop, drop, and roll.

After entering a state of tonic immobility and realising that I posed no threat, this Hebrew Character NFY was prepared for a photo session a short while later. However, he may still have been acting dead – the right way up! – because he had no intention of moving for the camera. #teammoth

Because of the dramatics of this morning's first Hebrew Character of the Year, I have the chance to add something new to the #dramaqueenmoth hashtag. #teammoth

When I went to empty the trap this morning, I was really happy to see an Oak Beauty NFY on the wall. Last year, I didn't get to see this moth. A single Hebrew Character was also new for the year. #teammoth

25.02.2026 18:45 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Given that beige is currently all the rage, I was able to get a Com. Quaker NFY in last night's trap. In addition to one Pale Brindled Beauty and three A. heracliana NFY (who promptly reminded me that some micros are very annoying to photograph!). #teammoth

21.02.2026 16:45 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0🙄 I looked everywhere this morning and couldn't find a single one. I'll try again tonight, though.

Even though it was only 3°C when I went to bed, I decided to turn on the light anyway. So I was surprised to find a Pale Brindled Beauty, my second of the year, this morning. #teammoth

10.02.2026 18:35 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Me too. I've had a few more consecutive Wogans, and they're far from entertaining.

I can sleep peacefully tonight knowing that I won't be walking out to a Wogan in the morning. Though I'm getting bored with Early Moths because that's all I'm getting. I could do with some variety right now. #teammoth

07.02.2026 17:21 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0You caught one more moth than I did with last night's trap. I got my ninth Wogan. 🙄
07.02.2026 15:41 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I was relieved to get one because I'd wanted to cross it off my list of winter moths for three years or so. I have difficulty trapping a December Moth. I doubt I'll ever find one in my garden.
