With my ongoing projects happening, there is another I have had to put a pause with for the time. But I intend to return to at some point next year. That is my mesoamerican historical fashion studies. My goal is to eventually make a book. I will make a thread here of the ones I have done thus far.

Illustration of the Eagle Lady, wife of the Sun, according to Nahua myths of Mexico. She is an aspect of Itzpapalotl and is seen here based on a depiction of said goddess with eagle wings. Further, her image is based on a possible depiction of a goddess with gold hair and yellow paint seen married to the sun under a cloak shaped like eagle wings and tail as seen here. She represents the time of the day when the moon is still visible during sunlight. Albert Pinot's painting, "bat woman" was an inspiration for the pose and atmosphere as well.
Historical portrait illustration of the Maya queen, K'abel of the Waka kingdom in the late classic period. Here, she is shown inside a palace interior wearing a red huipil and red skirt based on a figurine depicting her found in a burial. The headdress, shield and face paint are also based on the same figurine. She also holds a baton of the lightning deity K'awiil, who was also a symbol of rulership.
Illustration commission of a precolonial Powhatan village in Virginia. The scene shows three characters, a woman wearing a deer skin apron collecting oysters by the river behind some reeds. Walking behind the reeds is a man with wearing front and back deerskin aprons and carrying a bow and arrow. The other woman smiling at the other collecting oysters previously mentioned is carrying a basket full of dogwood flowers. Behind them all is a village scene showing some men grilling some fish, a grandmother preparing something with her granddaughter observing and some women dancing.
Scene from my sci-fi Mesoamerican comic, Dream Rider currently in production. The top shows a futuristic city inspired by the West Mexican shaft tomb cultures in preclassic Teuchitlan, Jalisco. The bottom shows a man arriving on a monocycle at the entrance of a bustling market.
A day late, but posting anyway for #portfolioday
I mainly do mesoamerican related art, but also sometimes draw other cultures and myths from history. I also do historical fashion studies of mesoamerica and comics. You can support me on patreon or commission me. And look out for my comic this year!

A golden haired and yellow painted goddess with Tonatiuh under sheets that appear similar to an eagles wings and tail. A possible depiction of the Eagle Lady seen in the Codex Borgia.
The codex borbonicus depicts Itzpapalotl with eagle wings and apparently the Eagle Lady was an aspect of this goddess. Meanwhile, I strongly believe she appears in the codex borgia married to the sun.

The Eagle Lady, who is the wife of the Sun (Tonatiuh). She is known by various names, including: Cuauhtli Izohuauh, Quilaztli (also referred to as the witch), Coacihuatl, Cuaucihuatl, Yaocihuatl, and Tzitziminicihuatl. This depiction is based on both the Codex Borbonicus and Codex Borgia.

Also, fertility since it was applied for the wedding and the goddesses who wore it being progenitors of maize. And since it was a cosmetic the elites had access to, it was valued. Also, nice work here!

Coloured pencil illustration. A Mixtec teenager sits on a large cushion. It is covered with jaguar fur. The girl wears a jaguar fur shawl over layers of green and gold on her torso, a red skirt with gold fringe, and red and white sandals. Her hair is tied with colourful cloth into braids twisted around the top of her head. She wears a necklace of turquoise, gold, and spondylus shells, and earrings and bracelets made of turquoise and gold. Her skin is painted an unnatural shade of yellow. A chihuahua is curled up at her side as she raises a glass of foaming chocolate to her lips. She is sitting in a room with a woven mat over a red floor. There are murals of royal figures on the wall behind her. To her right is a red doorframe hung with a white curtain, overlooking green mountains in the distance. In the light of the doorway stands a large ceramic vessel full of steaming, bubbling chocolate, with two ceramic cups next to it.
