Resident Evil 6 is filled with bespoke details unique to their different stages. My favorite is this mahjong table that looks like it was left in a hurry. It was, but not due to zombies. One person got Four Concealed Triplets (one of the most valuable hands) and everyone else quit.

I see a lot of the same kind of mistakes in indie platform fighters, where they get so focused on making the characters they loved from Smash but in a slightly different engine that the characters can’t make an identity for themselves. There’s so little attempt at building a brand for them.

It’s a shame. I think the couple unique parts of Fantasy Strike are legitimately cool, like Geiger’s time stop teleport and Quince’s Quince. It doesn’t bother me at all that his super is Aegis Reflector-esque, because everything around that is so in-character and cool. The game needed more of that.
