The EU is one of the world’s most fossil-import-dependent economies. In 2023, imports met 58% of its energy demand -near pre-crisis levels - leaving consumers exposed to price shocks. That’s far above China (24%) & India (37%); only Japan (84%) & South Korea (80%) rely more.

Absolutely we should fear terrorism and seek to prevent it.
But we should also fear those who use either real terrorism or bogus claims about terrorism to boost their own powers, restrict our freedoms and corrode our democracy.
Both present major threats to public life.

Winter Olympics Faces New Climate Reality
Unpredictable conditions are limiting where it’s physically and financially possible to host the Winter Olympics.
What happens when the Winter Olympics can't rely on winter?
For one, all the cities that staged the Winter Games since 1950 have heated up in the years since by an average of 2.7C.

A 60% jump in EU LNG imports from the U.S. in 2025 managed to drive up greenhouse gas emissions on both sides of the Atlantic - in the EU from the burning of the gas, and in the U.S. by prompting a shift to coal-fired generation as prices rose.

Exclusive: A cyberattack targeting Poland's energy infrastructure in December used wiper malware that would have erased grid computers and rendered them inoperable had it not been thwarted, a researcher at @ESET told me. The researcher calls the attack "unprecedented" for Poland and "substantial"

NEW: Coal-fired power generation fell in both China and India in 2025, for the first time since 1973. The drop came after record clean energy additions in both countries, and was the first time that clean energy was a major driver of falling coal power use.

Just a few things I'd like to say about this @hausfath.bsky.social piece.
The first is that every 10th of a degree of heating over 2C raises risks for multiple irreversible catastrophes MORE than every 10th of a degree of heating under 2C.
That's why the 2C target exists. It's not random.

Fascist government and climate deniers love it because it can produce the aesthetics of knowledge without any actual tendency towards truth. It is automated denialism.
Shame on every climate scientist promoting its use (there are lots)

Looking back to @wwattribution.bsky.social studies in 2025 showed again, in stark terms, how unfairly the consequences of human-induced climate change are distributed. The world does not have to be like this, we have a lot of agency to make it better. www.worldweatherattribution.org/unequal-evid...

A lot of people are going to lose money on this. Solar radiation modification only makes sense if followed by large-scale carbon dioxide removal, and we ain't got that.

The IPCC is perfectly clear on the need to strand the majority of fossil fuel assets in order to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement
