I just ran the whole gamut of emotions reading this Jack Klausner story. It’s eerie and sad and nothing is explained and you don’t get any sweet cathartic release at the end and it genuinely made me well up and want to cry. Really good.

I do sometimes describe submitting as a numbers game.

To be clear I do not mean you should use the plagiarism machine to flood the markets with slop!

But rather, that if you keep submitting that weird story you wrote earnestly you may find the right weird editor for it (I have been that editor)

A handful of other publications (Asimov's, F&SF, Analog) were also hit to varying degrees, but (according to my 2023 survey) we were the canaries. All the rest were reporting low-to-none.
