On my way to see the new Ethan Hawke movie people canโ€™t stop raving about. Thatโ€™s right, BLUE MOON.

A Dodgers-Mariners World Series is the dream for those of us that never left the West Coast. It would also only be watched by those of us on the West Coast.

Iโ€™m from Seattle originally and I feel the same. Weather is overrated!

Still buzzing about ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. Underrated virtue: it feels like a movie that used to be much more common, like a MIDNIGHT RUN or NASHVILLE. Meaningful and smart but also funny, exciting and moving, the whole emotional experience. Itโ€™s something for the snobs like me and our parents.

Just had my second animatic screening as an assistant director. Going to celebrate by finally seeing ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER in Vista Vision at, where else, the Vista Theater. I think Paul Thomas Anderson would appreciate this.

Eight years ago I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in animation. This has been a rockier year but I was heartened to remember how much fun I had, from weddings to concerts to wild nights in Vegas with the best crew in the biz. And I got promoted to assistant director! What a ride.

Finally visited Coleโ€™s French Dip in DTLA and lived my dream of being a 1940s alcoholic screenwriter.

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA: This movie rules. Much like Jack Burton, I cannot tell you exactly what happened in it. Bonus: Hilarious John Carpenter/Dean Cundey Q&A that hopefully no one recorded.

Iโ€™m seeing ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER in Vista Vision next week and Iโ€™m hoping all the prints havenโ€™t melted by then.

ED WOOD with restorations of all his early Disney projects (VINCENT, FRANKENWEENIE, HANSEL AND GRETEL, etc) is like my dream disc. BIG EYES is a perfect Criterion โ€œauteurโ€™s neglected classicโ€ title

Also, the idea of Tim Burton becoming the next โ€œWes Anderson/Wim Wenders/David Lynch/release everything they makeโ€ Criterion director is extremely funny to me and would deeply annoy a number of people. Let us reclaim DARK SHADOWS!!!

A family friend used to live by Larson when he was living in the Greenlake neighborhood of Seattle. Nobody knew who he was, they just knew him as the guy who would stay up all night working. When he moved out he finally introduced himself as the creator of THE FAR SIDE.

The Time Has Finally Come: I need to pose out someone opening a car door and getting into the driverโ€™s seat.

THE HUDSUCKER PROXY: I try not to be a nostalgic but man oh man do I miss big ass sets, incredible miniatures and models, hand painted matte paintings, and that weird period in the 90s where people were obsessed with 40s/50s pastiche. A genuine miracle of a movie. My favorite Coen.

Try to work for a director you can talk about THE HUDSUCKER PROXY and THE INSIDER with, itโ€™s great.

Taking my parents on a whirlwind tour of LA, starting with the ultimate cliches: El Coyote, the Farmerโ€™s Market, the Grove and the New Beverly Cinema (ROMY AND MICHELLEโ€™S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION). This city rules.

Sidebar: The Magic Castle date episode of LOVE is in my opinion one of the best episodes of anything thatโ€™s been produced in the streaming era. Incredibly cringe-inducing, hilarious and incisive examination of a certain type of LA inhabitant.
