Taken from the boardwalk leading up to the top of the feature. Down below are all the various mud pots each with it's own color representing the various minerals in the rock and soil. There's a hillside on the left and a little bit of the board walk on the right.
Photo of the sign near the Blood Geyser feature. Blood Geyser While the name of this geyser evokes imates of a guresome event the reality is much tamer. The high concentration of iron oxide in the parter precipitates out, staining the surrounding rocks a rich red. It has been busily erupting since it was first recorded in 1882. This geyser can erupt up to 6 feet and discharges about 150 gallons a minute.
This area of the feature is a great example of how the chemosynthesis going on produces an acid which dissolves the surrounding rock creating these beautiful pools and channels. This photo was taken from the upper area of the board walk looking down onto the area below.
