I think this was one of those cases where, as they admitted, they thought the reference art they had was officially made - something that they could allow a person to trace or redraw in their style to be utilized in a different piece.

Part of it depends, I should specify. For instance, if you were tracing or taking from a character sheet to utilize somewhere in a piece of art, that would be the kind of tracing that's more understandable, rather than the tracing of an original commissioned illustration.

If it's YOUR reference art, as in you made the art you're referencing, not really. In this case, because the art piece is being made for Pokémon Co., likely to be owned by Pokémon Co., and is (or should've been) a drawing of one of their characters - it's fine.

But the over-reliance on just using your gun for a lot of enemies and 3 bosses for both playthroughs BLOWS. It WORKS? because the guns/knives are stronger, but that wasn't better or fun design-wise.

In terms of character feel, it is so much better than DEVIL MAY CRY 1. Combos feel smoother with experience from DMC1, but Lucia's moves flow so well together, given she's a closer-range fighter. Wall acrobatics is a fun addition.

The best of both worlds would be to make both available or include the original game with the remake for people to experience it. As the game was mentioned in someone else's reply, at least you can buy og Resident Evil 2 if you wanted to play it, via PSN or GOG.
