Former Kennedy Center president speaks out in first interview since her firing NPR's Mary Louise Kelly speaks to Deborah Rutter, former head of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in her first interview since the board installed President Trump as its new chair.

Deborah Rutter was fired this week after a decade as president of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

She says the center worked hard to expand its audience by broadening the programming, inviting "all manner of arts and artists to our stages. ... I pray that that can be sustained."
