It'll be a while till I actually start making it so stuff will change and there's already a decent amount out there + things I'm still sharing, however I'm trying to keep some of the bigger new stuff under wraps publicly but it's hard sometimes

I am having to restrain myself so much more now that I've actually started developing clearer lore and plot for my story so I don't spoil the whole thing on bsky dot com because I want to yap about my characters and writing choices 😭

I'm rambling I'm just very passionate about storytelling especially when it comes to queer stories lol I will never beat the "making everything I get into or make about queerness" allegations because I do think queer readings and media can be legitimately classed as a special interest of mine lol

The thing is that the conditions of the world we live in are deeply interwoven and, even if you intend to cut out one rotten bit, there are often less obvious offshoots and connected norms and biases that may be passed by when trying to construct your new world.

It's also interesting to me to examine the stories that do fall into the category of supposedly being set somewhere without homophobia/transphobia and seeing how well they actually succeed at that since ultimately they are still created by people from societies that do have those biases

There's a lot more that one could dig into around why this is, desires for comfort vs catharsis, ect but on a simplified level I just feel like it hits harder since it's obviously closer to the lived experience of myself and the people around me. Also I loveeee angst (with a happy ending. But still)

Re: queer representation in general there is a divide between people who enjoy writing queer power fantasies where the characters live in a world free of homophobia and transphobia vs people who prefer more realistic stories and, while both have their place, I definitely fall into the 2nd camp.

Its important to their character that they are treated as a girl in their daily life and are regularly affected by misogyny, something which grates on them immensely even as they try to act like they're fine and can endure living like some quirky girl who's just a bit nonchalant about gender :3

Use to alter their body if they can figure out the mechanics of it, however societal pressure and their specific situation as a mostly closeted person in a highly scrutinized role makes it so this is not an option they currently see as viable and a lot of their arc revolves around this conflict.

Idk I've just been thinking about this lately while working on my story since I want there to be cool magical gender stuff going on, but in a way that feels more grounded on an emotional level. Sacha specifically is a magical nonbinary character who has powers that they can *hypothetically*-

However, while the idea can be a power fantasy and I certainly wish I was some sort of cool shapeshifter, in practice I feel like it often leaves them untethered from anything resembling the experience of actual nonbinary people.

I feel like a lot of people have this impulse when creating nonbinary characters to have them be magical shapeshifters, a different species, or otherwise portrayed as if they've always been totally androgynous and treated as a being free of gender

TYSM!!! Extremely niche dilemma: a beautiful emo girl offers to do free illegal magical gender transition stuff to you and she'll probably even get a bit gay about it but said girl regularly attacks you with a sword/magic so you don't trust her intentions 😔

My new turnaround sheet for my character, Palette! A calico cat with green eyes in a bluish-purple cape, violet collar and a bow made up of a purple orb with paint brush tips sticking out of either side, covered in lavender paint. The turnaround sheet has her front, both side, and back views. As well as her fur patterns for front and back when the cape isn’t covering them, her color swatches, character height (roughly 1 and 3/4 of her own heads tall), and a couple extra poses- one of her swinging the sword and holding the shield she uses to change its element, and one of her winking and holding up a peace sign!
