my solution for resolving world conflicts has always been, and will always be, based on the pursuit of peace. war is a failure state which has no place in the world. call me a hopeless dreamer, a damned hippy, a useless coward if you will. political pacifism is a bigger project than just me.

there are many, many other civilians outside of Iran who are now suffering directly from attacks made in response to actions taken by the United States and Israel. they also did not deserve this.
nobody deserves to be a target or collateral in a conflict between governments.
of course i am aware that the Iranian /government/ is comprised of terrible people who have done unspeakable things to their own subjects, and to others. but Iran is not its government, it is its people. the crimes of the leaders are not the sins of its people. they do not deserve to be punished.

an absolute shit-tonne of posters on here shouted (rightly) from the rooftops about the bombing of civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza and Lebanon. please be sure that you continue to decry the bombing of such targets in Iran as well.
war hurts civilians more than it hurts leaders.
anybody missing a spine, at all? because Keir Starmer seems to have found one.

(Later, at the police station)
cop: so, care to elaborate on what happened?
Uriah: well, officer, you see, it was pre-emptive self-defence on behalf of my friend Ian!
Ivan: *minding his own business, although openly he does hate both Ian and Uriah*
Uriah: *punches him in the face*
Ian: *punches him in the stomach*
Ian: WAIT WAIT URIAH if i punch him, he'll punch me back! that sucks.
Uriah: dude, you're so right. this sucks.
Ian: ... unless...
Uriah: ... unless...
Ian & Uriah together: ... unless you/I punch him first!
Uriah: solid plan.
my friend Ian, in the street, a bit lairy: omg, that guy Ivan is gonna punch me, look at him!
my other friend, Uriah: fuck, you're right.
Ian: i'm gonna get him first! got my back?
Uriah: take my knuckle dusters Ian!
me, a flood risk engineer: in praise of /hwhat/?

wait wait wait … so US intelligence anticipated a strike on Iran by the Israeli military, so to prevent the Iranian military from striking back, they pre-emptively struck Iran?
obviously I am not an expert on international law, but … i don't think a pre-emptive strike works through a third party???
i thought it would be hard to further cement the UK's reputation as the US's little drummer boy, but here we are.
meanwhile the UK news is full of talk of "evacuation efforts" and "offers of support" and almost no mention of the misery and chaos this latest invasion wreaks on the Middle East.
military personnel is one thing - they acknowledge a risk to their lives and live with that decision. but to risk the lives of their partners and children is less forgiveable. and to what end? to support the imperialist aims of a morally bankrupt government in Washington?
