If you spend time in the bad place, you’re hearing this claim a lot:

Alberta sends $23B more to Ottawa than it gets back. If we separated, we’d erase the $9B deficit and have a $14B surplus.

It sounds simple. It’s wrong. Here's why. 🧵

What a fantastic day out collecting signatures for the Water Not Coal petition! This is a non-partisan effort—protecting our precious water, wildlife, and the Alberta way of life that built this great province is something worth standing up for, no matter your political affiliation. #WaterNotCoal

Photo across from Danielle Smiths Constituency office on Division Avenue North. There were eventually thirty people at the rally. In this photo we see a large white banner with the word RECALL in large black font. Also people holding signs that say: “Canada is Alberta is Canada” another saying: “No More Lip Service” featuring a wide open mouth with red lips showing the tongue and tonsils.

Photo across from Danielle Smiths Constituency office of more people holding signs one saying; “End Corruption Call Election”, there is also a Forever Canadian sign with the stylized red maple leaf and Forever Canadian in black letters, except the V which is in red with white flames reaching up into the maple leaf. Also people preparing fly Canadian flags.Other signs saying: “Dog Whistle Racism”; “Smith Deliberately Ignoring 404 923 signatures” with the Forever Canadian logo. That was how many certified signatures that were gathered for the Forever Canadian petition. There was supposed to be a referendum on the question “Do you agree that Alberta should remain in Canada?” which is the basis of the petition. Smith is ignoring it and instead if the Separatist petition reaches the required signatures, their unconstitutional question will be on the ballot instead. The last sign in frame reads “Humanity Over Power”.

Photo across from Danielle Smith’s office of @ofmanyfandoms holding her Pride themed Canadian flag with a moose dressed as a Mountie. A big black banner saying: “No To Separation Canada Forever, Protest Rally Oppose Unite Demonstrate”. A red background sign with: “We Are Not withStanding with the UCP! Recall Them” in white lettering and the “with” in withstanding is crossed out. Also another saying. “Did you get the Attention you wanted?” then something else but you can’t make it out in this picture. The same person is also holding a sign saying: “It’s Not Our Land To Take” referring to the fact every square inch of Alberta’s land is treaty land and cannot be taken, or given away.

Photo across from Danielle Smith’s office. We see more people and signs: A sign with a yellow background and a map of Alberta showing the Indigenous treaty land areas: Treaty eight in green; Treaty six in beige; Treaty seven in blue, which is where Medicine Hat is located. There is also a small section between Treaty six and eight on the Saskatchewan border which is carved out for Treaty ten indigenous people which carries on into Saskatchewan. This sign also carries the message “Indigenous People Have Spoken, Alberta Is Not For Sale”. Then we have a Forever Canadian lawn sign stuck in the snow with a small Canadian flag attached and the words “A Group Opposed To All Efforts Taken To Leave Canada” in black lettering on a yellow background. Then we have a final person holding a “RECALL UCP” sign. There were two more people out of frame holding large Canadian flags.

Hats off, pun intended😄, to the eighty people who were at Medicine Hat College last night to show the Separatists, it isn’t happening. Same, to the people who braved the snow and cold at Danielle Smith’s constituency office today including @ofmanyfandoms.bsky.social.

Did you know?

The Provincial government has increased their property taxes on Calgarians by 57% over four years, well above inflation and population growth. They're now imposing the largest property tax increase in Calgary's history with a 21% hike, or about $350 for the typical family.

One thing that has become obvious after budget day: govt finally has to admit how much they have BLOATED the HC admin!

Looks like it took AHS from about 3.5% admin costs to 6.7% admin costs (or more)!!!

That's INSANE!

(we still don't know the AHS BLOW-UP costs yet)

Opinion: Child poverty is deepening in Saskatchewan The Saskatchewan Party government has not really made an attempt to seriously address poverty for more than a decade.

“78,050 children under the age of 18 in Saskatchewan were in poverty, a child poverty rate of 27.1 per cent. This is well above Canada’s national child poverty rate of 18.3 per cent and is the highest child poverty rate of all the provinces.”

Why Attack Iran? Our Authoritarianism and Our Corruption

How to understand war with Iran? We must get away from propaganda. Facts suggest two interpretive frameworks: a foreign war as a mechanism to destroy democracy at home; and a foreign war as an element of personal corruption by the president of the United States.
