I hope these targeted strikes on the Iranian regime’s military assets end the regime’s mayhem and bloodshed and makes way for this lasting peace in the region.

I want a lasting peace for everyone in the region – from the Iranian people to the Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians, Iraqis, Jordanians, and Israelis.

When the Iranian people stood up to protest the regime last month, the regime murdered tens of thousands of its own people.

If it wasn’t for the regime, the region may very well know peace.

For decades, the regime has caused mayhem and bloodshed through Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis in Yemen – all while the people of Iran have suffered.

These strikes are targeting military infrastructure – with warnings to Iranian civilians to take shelter away from these military targets.

As we celebrate Black History Month and the victories of Team USA at the Olympics, we’re introducing this legislation to honor DeHart Hubbard.

After the Olympics, Hubbard came home and dedicated his life to expanding opportunity.

He worked to advance African Americans in sports and public life and served our community for decades.

Despite that discrimination, he won gold in the long jump — making history and bringing home a victory for a country that had not yet fully recognized his equality.

Hubbard competed during a time of open segregation and racism.

On his journey to Paris, Black athletes were forced to stay in the bow of the boat, separated from white teammates.

He qualified for multiple events, but officials refused to let him compete in some because of his race.

Cincinnati native William DeHart Hubbard made history in 1924 — becoming the first African American to win an individual Olympic gold medal.
