In Newfoundland and Labrador, only 9 women were elected in 2021 — only 22.5% of the legislature. I’m hopeful that this year (election on October 14) we will see more women elected.

Women in every province deserve to see themselves reflected in their government.

Vehicles registered to Ford cabinet ministers caught by speed cameras more than 20 times | Globalnews.ca Documents obtained by Global News reveal that, over three years, vehicles registered to Ford’s cabinet minister received more than $3,300 in fines for speeding.

Ford’s cabinet ministers don’t like being told to obey the law, so they want to get rid of speed cameras so they can continue to pose a safety risk to children walking to school without facing any consequences.

It’s sometimes incredibly difficult to continue to look for the places where our humanity intersects with another whose beliefs are so different from our own.

They truly believe that they are teaching their children important values, just as I believe I am doing the same with my child. Remembering this helps me to have compassion and to connect with them as fellow mothers.

It was really nice to have a rational conversation with someone about an emotionally charged issue at a protest, and to walk away feeling hopeful. I’m thankful that we both had this opportunity today. This is how we find our way forward.

We spoke about how banning birth control medication negatively impacts people with Endometriosis and Adenomyosis and how our society lacks consistent community support for mothers and children after they are born. We spoke about the funding needed in hospitals and community care.

I had an amazing chat with a pro-life retired nurse today. We found the point at which our humanity intersected (caring about the health and safety of women, caring about Science, and caring about healthcare).

Today I realized that there are so very many people who care about public schools in our community. Teachers and education workers, students, families, and community members care about local democracy and funding our schools. The antidote to despair is action. My heart is full.

I spoke with a parent of a child who attended Elizabeth Ziegler school who was livid that the school is now closed indefinitely until they can get enough funding to hopefully fix it. #OntEd

Some folks had never heard of #Bill33 and were shocked to find out that Doug Ford could simply take over any school board and put it under Ministry supervision. They were shocked to find out that over 50 schools in the region are not in a state of good repair. #OntEd

A mother told me that she was worried that taking away school board trustees would take away her voice as a parent and voter. A father told me that he doesn’t want Doug Ford’s buddies who don’t live in our community making decisions about his child’s school. #OntEd

A lot of racialized people expressed their worries about the impact of Bill 33 on vulnerable and equity-deserving groups. One young woman told me about how she had written an essay in school about police trauma and how police in schools made her feel unsafe as a racialized student. #OntEd

While out canvassing and collecting signatures on a “Withdraw Bill 33” petition today, I met a number of amazing humans. One University student told me that being a teacher is the most important job that anyone can have. He was one day early for #WorldTeacherDay but what a gift!! 💝

Today is the National Day of Action for MMIWG2S+.

Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, Trans, and 2SLGBTQ+ people continue to face systemic violence in Ontario and across Canada.

We need full implementation of the 231 Calls for Justice.
