I know a lot of people are already spreading this info, but hoping to spread it a little further: donating to a food bank, food pantry, or food distribution mutual aid group is really important right now, as TFG and the fucking GOP are shutting down snap benefits on November 1. I'll link to a few

This is incredibly true for how we travel, which is why I'm a huge fan of my e-bike.
There are so many benefits to bike travel. More cities and localities need to look at how they can make small changes to better support bikes.

Also, don't read bad books or watch TV shows/movies you don't like just because they're "important" or "highly praised." You like what you like, it's fine. Don't waste time on things you aren't enjoying.
But that's advice for all ages. Even if it's a "classic" if _you_ don't like it, put it down.

It's okay to quit things, even as you get older. The job you thought was going to be your dream job, the career you've been studying for since you were 19, the group of friends you made years ago that aren't meshing anymore. You can grieve the ends of things, but they really can and should end.

We Have at least 70? years of science fiction exploring this proposition and all reaching the same conclusions as Josie.
Which I only bring up because everyone involved in this AI thing is a science fiction fan, but not one who understands what they read.

When you're a kid, the world doesn't make sense, you think it's because you don't get it yet. When you're an adult you have to come to grips with the fact that the world doesn't make sense because it just doesn't. It's hard not to feel some kind of way about it. People reach that at different ages.
05.10.2025 17:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
I've always felt like the problem is that adulthood is so full of so much stupid that we're constantly feeling like we must be doing it wrong. The system is designed to make us feel like we're the ones messing up to deflect away from issues. Then society also is full of weird "just because" things.

Lot of blatant and very funny pareidolia in the AI space. I no longer wonder why early humans thought every tree that had cankers in the shape of a smily face must be a god

We played our first session of Daggerheart tonight, and as someone who has never played a TTRPG aside from D&D, this is very different but also very fun.
Actually rolling D12s being the main difference, lol.

Always happy for a chance to say: I read every real study on the impact of bike lanes on street-level retail. They never hurt. They often help. Sometimes they help a lot:

There are a lot of great skeletons out there for building a story around, Campbell is one of them.
But if you think there's a real monomyth or that universal symbolism is real, you need to stop talking and go find some other cultures to experience.

I hear so many big budget, big network podcasts and news shows get names of people and places incredibly wrong that I made it a mission to get as close as I could. How can I be honoring someone if I am not using their actual name?
One is their name, and the other is not.

There's a scene in Star Trek TNG that sticks with me. Dr. Pulaski keeps pronouncing Data's name incorrectly. This is one of many small ways she's showing a prejudice against him. He asks her why she says it differently. She asks why it matters.
"Because one is my name, and the other is not."

For Introductions Necessary, I spent hours researching how to properly pronounce the names of the #WomenInSTEM that we featured. I'm lucky to have friends who speak many languages to help me out, but hearing a name from the person is best. If you know someone w/a Wikipedia page send them this link!

Sincerely, that is one of the most amazing things I've heard of in a long time.
I've got a podcast project that involves a LOT of names and the biggest research hurdle I face is figuring out how to pronounce things. Finding video of someone saying their own name is the holy grail.

I wish this didn't hit so hard but the only two therapists I ever went to that were worth anything weren't covered and had me on payment plans...
The last lady that did take it basically said my chronic illness didn't exist and I was being lazy. A.I. definitely wouldn't manage that.

About six months ago, I was telling our interns about the A.I. policy I was working on. I said "I'm sure your profs are telling you about this already..." No, they were not at all. No depth to any discussions. When I'm the one telling them this stuff it's a sad day.

I mentioned weeks ago that I use tarot cards for journaling prompts.

I do enjoy amusement parks, I really do. But in 2025 having either no posted wait times or grossly inaccurate ones is kind of silly. I just want to know how long I'll be waiting. App said 15 minutes. I got in line 20 min ago and I'm not even halfway.

I have unsubscribed from at least a half dozen podcasts and YouTube channels because they keep relying on gen-AI for research and writing and then making excuses for it.
The market is too full of genuinely great creators for me to support that junk. Treat your creativity with respect.
