Many schools are still on summer break, but #ReadAcrossAmerica has diverse book recommendations even now! July's theme is cultivate compassion, with selections for elementary, middle, and young adult readers π π

29.07.2025 17:26 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0Today marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
This legislationβhard-fought, hard-wonβwas nothing short of transformative for so many.
But ableism is still pervasive, inside the classroom and out. It is our duty to continue the fight for inclusion and accessibility.
It's about time.
The consequences of this cruel move have already been feltβprograms canceled, new positions put on pause.
But concerned parents spoke out, educators called, lawmakers sent lettersβand finally, schools will receive their funding.
The budget bill cuts Medicaid, slashes food stamps, eliminates school lunchβto give tax cuts to billionaires.
We must fight back, and tell our lawmakers to put #FamiliesFirst.

Today, 4 hedge fund managers on Wall St. earn more in a year than every kindergarten teacher in America combined.
Teachers: join us for a town hall tomorrow w/ leaders from the AFT & NEA to discuss the enormously important issue of raising teacher pay & saving public education.
Educators are skilled professionals. And they should be treatedβand respectedβas such.
21.07.2025 20:25 β π 11 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0I am proud to lead an organization that doesnβt shy away from complex and difficult issues.
Democracy can be messy, but NEA membership has shown time and again our dedication to hearing all voices as we work to determine the best path to creating the schools and communities our students deserve.
Tonight's vote is not an endorsement of the ADLβs full body of work. NEA calls on the ADL to:
1) Support the free speech and association rights of all students and educators.
2) Stop using language that disparages whole groups of educators.
This vote came after a thoughtful, thorough process following NEA rules, and the result demonstrates our commitment to centering our mission and our work. We also strongly reject the false, demeaning attacks that have been hurled at our hardworking members. Hate has no place here.
19.07.2025 02:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Our members are committed to ensuring our schools & campuses are safe and welcoming for all students, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, or identity. We increased our efforts to combat all forms of hate because it is fundamental to who we are as educators and the core of who we are as a union.
19.07.2025 02:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Without equivocation, NEA stands strongly against antisemitism. We always have and we always will. Our Jewish students and educators deserve nothing less.
19.07.2025 02:47 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Tonight, NEAβs Board of Directors voted not to adopt a proposal that would have, for the first time, dictated who we engage with and what resources we share with our members.

I am fired up to be here in Chicago at this #GoodTroubleLivesOn rally!
We will not stop organizing, advocating, and speaking out for what is right.
We honor John Lewisβs legacy not just in word but in action. He didnβt wait for permission to fight for justice, and neither do we. On July 17, we carry his spirit forward and remind the nation that #GoodTroubleLivesOn.
15.07.2025 14:39 β π 26 π 11 π¬ 0 π 2Unconscionable. This indefensible move risks after school programs, summer school, teacher training, and moreβall at the expense of our students.
16.07.2025 18:15 β π 8 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0Being president of NEA is the honor of a lifetime. And I will never stop fighting to protect public education.
15.07.2025 12:27 β π 8 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0I had such a greatβand necessaryβconversation with @dananessel.bsky.social and @azagmayes.bsky.social on their podcast.
They are asking the critical question of this moment: what happens to a nation when public education comes under attack?
The #BigUglyBill will leave families sicker, hungrier, and poorerβall to fund tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.
This is cruelty. We are organizing, voting, and fighting to undo the damage. Join me and our partners at AFT:
What a phenomenal #NEARAβI hardly have words to describe it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, NEA members, for all the work you have done and will continue to do.
How lucky are we to hear from Andy Markus, our Education Support Professional of the Year?
Andy so clearly demonstrates how custodial workersβand administrative staff, and bus drivers, and cafeteria workersβhave a powerful role to play in the education of every child.
Now, more than ever, higher educationβand academic freedomβis critical.
It was an honor to recognize our Higher Educator of the Year, Teresa M. Hodge. What a fearless teacher and tenacious individualβFlorida, you must be proud!
What a powerfulβand purposefulβday 3. Thank you, NEA delegates, for your energy and your spirit!
06.07.2025 01:48 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 0 π 1A graphic featuring a beige and purple background overlayed with a quote from National Teacher of the Year Ashlie Crosson that reads, "We know what's at stake if our schools falter. If education is disrupted by disinvestment or division, then we don't just lose a school system. We lose our future."
Our 2025 NTOY Ashlie Crosson took the #NEARA stage with a powerful reminder that we are the guardians of our classrooms and the conditions that allow them to thrive. She spoke from the heart about the urgency of this moment and the strength we hold when we stand together. buff.ly/mvxYlW8
05.07.2025 00:27 β π 44 π 14 π¬ 1 π 0I am elated to honor the 2025 Teacher of the Year at #NEARA. Ashlie Crosson is an English teacher from my home state of Pennsylvania, and she cultivates a true love of learning in her classroom.
Congratulations on your incredible achievement, Ashlie!
Our hearts are with every educator, student, and family in the Texas Hill Country facing the devastating flooding from the Guadalupe River. We are thinking of you and stand ready to support.
05.07.2025 00:08 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you to Education International and educators around the world for all of your messages of solidarity.
Together, we will protect our professions and defend our democracies.
Sending the solidarity, strength, and love of 3 million NEA members to the AFSCME DC 33 workers on strikeβas a daughter of this city, I know firsthand that Philly runs because you do.
Union-busting has no place in the City of Brotherly Love. #1u
As Day 1 of #NEARA ends, we honor Ulysses Floydβa devoted @floridaea.bsky.social member who attended 50 straight RAs, starting in Portland. His legacy lives on in the students, educators, and union he uplifted.
