art isn’t always going to make you comfortable. it’s treating art in this puritan sense where it has to please you, then it’s just a consumerist product… and we have these storefronts (payment processors too) constantly dictating what counts as art. in hypocritical ways. it’s grim really.

This is kind of indicative of what Eurogamer has devolved to since it essentially became VG247 and brought a lot of that audience over – though the comments were never particularly pretty (they never are), they were often a bit more intellectually sincere and better moderated two years ago.

It has been a profoundly challenging two years to be disabled in this space. There are fewer places to pitch, if only because this industry just gets *more* ableist. But I've had the privilege to work with some genuinely great editors over the past four years and am persistnetly grateful. 8/8

And hey, hopefully I'll work a bit more with @mfortki.bsky.social if I keep journalisting (real word, journalist is a verb) into 2026 who's been a blast to write for over at The Verge, even if both the pitches we've worked on have been beset by my being super-sick or my cat dying. 6/8

Though I only worked with her once, I still look back fondly on how great it was to report for @waterslicer.bsky.social – especially for a piece that refused to come together until the last minute, something she treated with a rare patience and understanding even as I was a hot mess about it. 5/8

And another to @marlownyc.bsky.social, probably the only editor I've worked for with a consistently sincere interest in coverage of South Korean TV (and who let me profile Hiroyuki Sanada) and never made me call something "the next Squid Game." 4/8

Shoutout, too, to @legsfrank.bsky.social, who gave me a bunch of work when she was at The Daily Beast and helped me develop as an entertainment writer so I wasn't trapped in the cycle of pitching gaming outlets on subjects they don't care about. 3/8

Currently, @andrewrweb.bsky.social is a first port-of-call for basically all my culture features and the only reason I can still report on accessibility. I don't work with her as much as I'd like, but @jennygzhang.bsky.social also rocks. 2/8

I try to tag my editors in my social posts about pieces, but I do want to shout out two of my former editors. @halophoenix.bsky.social gave me my first professional commission and was a rare champion of accessibility reporting – alongside Christian Donlan, former features editor at Eurogamer. 1/8
