my review of song of achilles (2 stars): - "surely there is a better, more romantic way to tell patroclus' and achilles' story" i say, and i point to hit game hades - briseis i am so sorry you had to be a female character in this book of all the books - there is a good faith review of this where i say this does a good job at portraying the rampant misogyny of ancient greek society. HOWEVER why is it marketed, then, as a gay romance - like my god every single female character who even slightly comes "between" achilles and patroclus is punished instantly. except for maybe thetis, who shows up to briefly be a hater, and then vanishes?? - did apollo just ?? forget ?? about that plague? - feels like i would have been better off just reading the iliad at a certain point - i would be less irritated if achilles wasn't just gay because he hates women u know what i mean - patroclus experiences such minimal thoughts partially it's kind of hilarious
