Proud to contribute to this collective effort revealing how microscopic calcifiers are key players in Earth’s carbon future. 💙🌎
By comparing CaCO₃ production, shallow export, and burial, we show each group follows a unique pathway.
Future climate impacts will be group-specific, yet current models cannot capture this diversity.
We compare functional traits of the three major calcifying groups, coccolithophores, foraminifera, and pteropods, and evaluate how these traits shape their roles in carbon and alkalinity cycles, and sensitivities to climate change and ocean acidification.
