It is devastating to lose Pope Francis at this moment in history, at a time when freedom, justice, and compassion are in peril. He was the embodiment of empathy, love, and humility, bringing hope to the dispossessed and the downtrodden. He brought heaven a little closer to us.

So thank you, Prime Minister, for your service. I hope we see you representing us on the world stage in another capacity someday soon. The world desperately needs more Canada.🇨🇦

I didn’t agree with everything he did (like calling an election the day Afghanistan fell) but I never doubted he always had Canada’s best interests at heart.

But anyone watching these last couple months would have to agree that this moment - standing up against the threats to our sovereignty - has been his finest hour - and our country’s.

And watching from abroad these last few years, it was hard to understand the vitriol towards him. And harder to explain to non-Canadians why the country turned on him.

He won’t remember but I met Justin Trudeau years ago during our Vancouver days at a party for a mutual friend. He was inquisitive, interesting, and a gentleman.
It’s been a privilege to watch from afar as he grew into the leader he is today.
