Yup. If you wanted to play a game, the computer had to play the whole tape and store it in memory, *then* you could play your game. If it screwed up at any point, it had to start over.

I once put a piece of fiction I wrote two decades ago into one of those AI checkers and it came back as 100% AI. You know, AI is good for a lot of things, but it has really hurt our perception of art and genuine artists who will now always have to somehow prove they didn't use it.
