I think genAI is bad at what it does and bad for the people who use it, but that’s at best secondary to why I oppose it. It’s also bad for the environment, bad for the artists whose work it steals, bad for the people who lose work to it, and bad for the underpaid humans who actually keep it running.

I don’t submit if I know in advance they use AI. I can be unfortunately surprised by AI artwork as much as anyone, but I look for anti-AI stances when I submit.

Today, I signed a contract, wrote a poem, and received a kind rejection. Balance!

Those who push AI refuse to address the baked in plagiarism. They also fail to understand when and how writing happens. I have spent the last few hours revising poems. Reading them aloud, testing wording, re-breaking lines, changing punctuation, etc. AI cannot do that. AI should not do it either.
