I think if the Castellanos story had come from anyone but Matt Gelb, I'd be a little skeptical. But Gelb is so dialed into the team and the front office and isn't in to sensationalism. I don't know if that makes it hit home anymore, but it feels more anchored, if that makes sense

Nick Castellanos is an enigma. He's frustrating, electric, standoffish, fun-loving, blunt, dedicated, stubborn, exhausting, and entertaining.

It was clearly time to go. But what an interesting ride the last four years were. Gonna crack open a Presidente for him tonight.

Well, Weston Wilson was not the roster casualty I was expecting to get JT Realmuto back on the 40-man

Yup, walked the first batter on 5 pitches, retired the next 20. That close to a perfect game. First game of a doubleheader that started at 5 p.m. on a weeknight, there were maybe 200-300 people in the stadium at the time.

We had no idea what Ranger Suarez was going to become. He had no idea what he'd become. From a stuff standpoint he's always been underwhelming. But I don't know that I've covered a better true pitcher at that level.

I feel good for Ranger today. Against all odds, he earned this

My greatest memory of Ranger Suarez is after throwing a no-hitter with the Crosscutters in 2016, talking with him postgame and there was this moment when it finally hit him that he'd thrown a professional no-hitter. He paused his answers, looked skyward, and just laughed.

I have zero idea what to make of Felix Reyes as a prospect, but he’s had an incredible year and keeps it going with his first AAA home run hit at just 92 mph. He’s probably the front runner for the Paul Owens Award after winning the Eastern League batting title

It was a two-hit night for Aidan Miller, who reached base three times. He doubled to center on the first pitch of the game with an exit velo of 105.7

Maybe the best outing of the season for Andrew Painter in his penultimate start. He throws 5 innings of scoreless ball for the first time since June 15
5 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 BB, 6Ks ... 74 pitches, 47 strikes ... 13 swings and miss ... Sat 95-97, T98

Aidan Miller plays the game like it’s moving slow to him. A lot of young guys might rush this play, but he knows how much time he has, settles and makes a good throw. Seeing him in person has been different than watching broadcasts.

Another really good PA from Aidan Miller earns his second walk of the night. Down 0-2 he battles back to walk, then steals second on the next pitch. Still hasn’t registered a AAA AB, but has two steals. Kenta Maeda has shown Miller nothing but spin, and Miller has been real patient with it

Totally fair, and quality, point. I think the idea is you want to give guys who have any amount of potential to be a starter every opportunity to succeed as a starter. If someone has pure stuff, the transition to reliever can be quick, i.e. Seth Johnson

I think it was purely about getting innings. He missed 2024 with Tommy John, and you just need him to pitch. He wasn't in the plans for 2025, nor should he have been. He had done nothing to show that he could make a Kerkering type run through the system.

Jersey Shore’s Saul Teran needs some serious Paul Owens Award consideration after a scoreless 10th inning and a pair of strikeouts tonight:

14/15 saves
44 IP
29 hits
7 R
6 ER

Alex McFarlane’s AA debut with Reading was pretty electric. Sat 99-101 on the broadcast gun, he struck out three, walked his first batter and allowed a hit. But all in all a really good showing from McFarlane out of the pen

Phillies 10th-round pick Cole Gilley made his pro debut tonight for Clearwater, striking out the side in his first inning. Gilley threw two shutout innings, allowing a walk and not hits. He sat 92-93 with the fastball, but I really liked the potential of the changeup
