10.08.2025 18:30 β π 23143 π 4823 π¬ 468 π 464This image shows two versions of the same photograph. On the left is the straight-out-of-camera colour JPEG. It has a soft and dreamy feel to it. On the right is my black-and-white edit of the RAW image. It has a harsher, more stark feel to it. The image is taken from the blocked road that leads up to the now-abandoned Lower Neuadd Reservoir. A wire fence that runs along the road can just be made out in the bottom right corner. In the distance rises Pen-y-fan, the tallest mountain in the Brecon Beacons. The photo is taken facing north, and captures the much rarer-seen southern and eastern slopes. From the peak, a well-travelled path picks its way down the eastern slope until it disappears stage right.

Which do you prefer?

This photo shows the distinctive peak of Pen-y-fan (tallest mountain in the Brecon Beacons), peaking through a gap in a row of (I believe?) Scots Pine trees. Just behind the trees, from left to right, runs the retaining wall of Upper Neuadd Reservoir.

This is a photo taken from Pen-y-fan (highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons), looking south towards the drained (and totally not abandoned, honest!) Upper Neuadd Reservoir. In the foreground, a stream has cut a channel that runs through the middle of the frame and into the distance towards the upper right quadrant of the image. There, two rows of trees seemingly form two sides of a square. In front of the trees, cloaked in shadow, is the retaining wall of Upper Neuadd Reservoir. This reservoir was drained by the local water company some years ago now.
Wondering what that valley looks like from the top of Pen-y-fan? Here you go π
I took the previous shot where those two rows of trees meet, in the upper right quadrant of this photo.

This is a photo of the eastern side of Craig-Gwaun-Taf ridge and the sound side of Pen-y-Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons. This photo is taken from the dried-out bed of Upper Neuadd Reservoir, an old Victorian reservoir that Welsh Water has drained and left somewhat abandoned.
I'm lucky enough to live in a very beautiful place.

This is a photograph of Revo Kitchen's building, on the seafront at Weston-super-mare in Somerset, England. The building's roof is made up of a large central pyramid, with longer triangular rows jutting out to the edge of the building. The unusual roof design makes for a striking appearance in the early morning sun.

Doesnβt this come from Badger in Wind in the Willows?
Got a vague memory thatβs where I first heard it.
The Sears Tower looking insanely creepy during a blackout, including the impression of a scary face topped by a crown of spikes. It looks like a giant humanoid evil robot or a demonic Minecraft creature.
"It's ok, honey. The Sears Tower experiencing a blackout won't hurt you!"
The Sears Tower experiencing a blackout:
Baffles me how it can be seen as sophisticated or grown-up.
The RW is far more likely to condemn any recognition of the Palestinian state, and claim that itβs somehow anti-Semitic.
Because itβs the kind of threat you expect children to make to each other in the school playground.
Weβre upset because we thought weβd finally elected adults - and itβs starting to look like we were wrong.
WTF?
If recognition is going to be conditional, it should be conditional on the behaviour of *Palestinians*, surely?
This feels like the kind of threat that children make to each other, not what we expect from grown adults.
Any proposed bans on VPNs is as illiterate as is it idiotic.
VPNs are an essential part of secure access to work on, and deploy, cloud-based services.
Get rid of VPNs, and you massively damage the UK IT industry.
Oh that will not be a problem

In a civilised society, rationing of essentials should be seen as failure, not something to get off on.
βUK water firms to introduce surge pricing for waterβ.
What utter ghouls: the companies, the failed regulator, and ultimately the major parties for failing to manage the countryβs resources adequately.
You just know theyβd introduce rationing for oxygen too if they could figure out how to.
I was up there last night too. Must have driven right past you without realising!

Pride Flags on Regent Street
Tomorrow at Pride in London weβll send a message to the world: in our city you are free to be whoever you want to be, and love whoever you want to love.
We must take a stand against those seeking to roll back hard-won rights.
Case in point: I was trying to chase a missing delivery earlier today. Only way to interact with the courier was via online chat.
When I said that I wanted to raise a complaint, they kicked me off the chat.
