I thought maybe it varied by state. I recall when I moved from Massachusetts in my 30s, I was shocked to discover they not everyone goes back to school the Wednesday after Labor Day. Granted some years, if we’d had a lot of snow days to make up it felt like we’d in school until July.

And 45ish minutes later and the alarm has finally stopped. Odds of getting back to sleep grim.

I have jet lag and a cold, finally fell asleep around 2:00 PM and the fire alarm in my hotel went off at 4:40 and is still going off 25 minutes later. Thankfully there’s no fire, reportedly it’s due to a faulty wire in the next door building but I just want to get some sleep. And it’s chilly out.

I think it stuck in my memory because at the time I was a relatively poor kid who didn’t have a lot of choice re: clothing and a fair bit of my clothing was used before thrifting was popular. Funny what the mind chooses to retain. Meanwhile, I can barely remember what day it is.

I’m old old and this sparked a memory of a similar assignment in middle school. One of the popular girls wrote a very well detailed guide on buying new clothes (like checking for any irregularities, loose threads, loose buttons). I don’t even remember what I wrote about.

Beak size is another difference. As someone else once told me “Crows are a bird with a beak. Ravens are a beak attached to a bird”

added bonus of leaving the Metaverse, fewer temptations. I’m pretty good about not buying a ton of stuff and restricting myself to sustainable items and brands, but certain items (art supplies/stationery + natural skin care) and sales are my kryptonite, esp. when in consume to console mode.

miss all the great, free museums in DC, I will enjoy once again having access to the Whaling Museum (they’ve had some great exhibits in the last couple of years), Gardner Museum, Peabody Essex and cannot wait to some day visit the Gorey House.

Like many others here, I deactivated my Twitter/X account and deleted X app from my phone. Prior to doing so, I looked back at some of my older tweets and replies (at least as far as it would let me). It was a little time capsule of my interests, plays + museum exhibits, former online acquaintances

Anyone else notice an uptick in scam calls the last week. I even got two from Russia (just blocked; didn’t pick up so I have no idea what the scam might be)

Basically huffing my santal 26 candle because it reminds me of my restful stay at Life House in the Berkshires when election anxiety was looming but far enough in the future that it was easier to escape for a few days.

Sadly, my move is complete (aside from some unpacking and furniture procurement and/or assembly) just in time for the election anxiety to hit full-force. At least I was able to distract myself for a few weeks.

I’ve been fascinated with Bella da Costa Greene since I read an article about her in the New Yorker over 20 years ago. I read the bio “An Illuminated Life.” I’ve planned a trip to NYC next month just to see the exhibition, but wish that I could also attend the symposium.

Deciding to move ended up being unintentionally brilliant antidote to election anxiety. Yes, I’ve simply replaced it with moving stress, but at least the stakes are lower.

Seriously, I’m beginning to think that the auroras are punking me at this point.

Much Ado tix acquired for next March. While there is always a ton to see in London, despite having been a fair number of times might combine with a few days in Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp. Trip is still in early development stage.

Good news is that I live in a studio and am not a hoarder so this should be manageable. Bad news … I am me and past history suggests that despite my best intentions, I will procrastinate until I’m in crisis mode.

I really need to use this account more. I tried threads and I keep seeing a ton of posts from people I do not follow and I have no clue who they are but either they are dying or a lived one has just died and while I have nothing but sympathy for them, it’s clear how I got on dead or dying threads.
