STATEMENT BY GEORGE FOOTE, OUTSIDE GENERAL COUNSEL TO USIP, ON DOJ/DOGE MOTION FOR SUMMARY JUDGMENT AGAINST USIP "The government filing cannot hide the truth: the Trump administration and DOGE have no authority to fire USIP's politically balanced board, seize the USIP building, confiscate millions of dollars of private donor funds, or fire the USIP staff. The text of the USIP Act and multiple Supreme Court rulings reject the President's claim that he has total control over the U.S. Institute of Peace. The Institute's independence has been respected by seven Republican and Democratic administrations and every Congress for 40 years. No President until now-and nobody else ever-has claimed that the Institute has any role in the Executive Branch. It has been universally recognized that the Institute's peacebuilding work is private, non-political, and carried out at the sole direction of its board of directors, with accountability to Congress and to the public. We're confident that these unlawful actions will be reversed quickly to allow USIP to return to its important work of making possible a more peaceful world."

The chaotic institutional destruction hurts us all. We want to make this a place where people can share the ways that this assault on our institutions, the employees and their families, the people, critters, and lands depending on the services are affected.
