I agree with above post — it’s hubris to think we can impose our reality on whatever place we decide to land in. My own quite limited experience of living in another country underscores that.

Wondering about the context…sounds like he’s saying that an employee gives up something — what? their home culture? — in order to work in Dubai, but expects that at least political stability of the host country can be counted on as part of that “trade” for working in a foreign country.
