This "foundation" is bullshit and anyone telling you that letting corporations read all your private messages and steal all your data will keep kids safe is either a moron, a corporate shill, or a government plant

Your CEO is a moron.

Thinking that letting big companies read and take data from all our private messages is a good thing makes your entire "foundation" sound like a government op to get people to be okay with giving up privacy.

Fuck this big brother shit.

Actively engaged in colonization like, say, helping commit a genocide to conquer another nation to take their land for themselves?

Americans can very accurately be called colonizers right here and now for the actions that our nation is taking in our name.

This is great work!

But it's also only the tip of the iceberg.

Where are the charges filed for kidnapping and assault and reckless endangerment? The orders issued for police to intervene in future ICE abductions or follow ICE with sirens on to warn residents?

There's lots more to be done.

It's not just the best Spider-Man film, it's one of the best super hero movies of all time. So good.

Literally never been a better super hero fight scene than the train fight.

You should just grab and fill a simple pill planner. They are designed for exactly this and are very cheap. Much less hassle to fill once a week than deal with a bottle system like that every day.

Exactly right

Today is the day we could have taken every single person in this nation from a homeless shelter to a permanent home with what we have spent

We don't lack the money to solve problems, we lack the will.

My name is Marisa Kabas, and I'm an independent journalist who publishes The Handbasket. I'm reaching out about a matter that involves your team and that continues to trouble me.

In June of last year, Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and I filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DC Metropolitan Police Department to compel them to release body camera footage from the March 17, 2025 DOGE raid on the US Institute of Peace. What followed was months of back and forth with their lawyers, arguing why it was in the public interest to release the un-redacted footage in its entirety. Though tiny segments were handed over, that wasn't enough: We wanted all of it.Β

On February 18, 2026, a DC judge ruled in our favor, and your reporter Mark Segraves sent a kind note of congratulations that day. Then on Monday, March 2nd, the footage was handed over to me and excitedly announced I'd received it and would be reviewing it in the coming days and sharing what I learned. When Segraves emailed me this past Thursday asking for my phone number, I didn't think much of it. But when he called me just before 2pm on Friday to let me know NBC4 Washington would be airing a segment at 5pm, I grew concerned.Β

Segraves said he'd obtained some of the footage via a FOIA request that week after he heard the footage had been released to me. He said he'd credit the work of RCFP and me, but it was little comfort. I asked if he'd known the day before when he emailed me for my number, why didn't he tell me then? He didn't have a good answer for that. He acknowledged all the hard work I'd done getting this footage released. I asked him if he could hold the story until Monday, to which he replied that he's "not just a blogger" (implying that that's all I am, presumably) and that he'd have to check with his editor. I said fine. Nearly an hour later he called back to say his editor refused to hold the story, but that they were happy to interview me via Zoom to add to the package, and I said I would.

I said fine. Nearly an hour later he called back to say his editor refused to hold the story, but that they were happy to interview me via Zoom to add to the package, and I said I would.

What followed was two hours of furiously writing and posting clips of the footage to Youtube so I could get something published before the 5pm broadcast, and in the midst of that, recording a quick Zoom interview with a person who was about to take credit for my work. At 4:59pm ET, The Handbasket published a piece titled "Police body cam footage shows DOGE knew Institute of Peace was private property during raid." Then I tuned into NBC4 Washington via your website to catch the broadcast, and my instinct to rush to get something out first was proven right.Β

"It's a story you're seeing first on News4," your newscast began. "For the first time we're getting an inside look at what happened the day the Trump administration took over the US Institute of Peace. News4 obtained more than four hours of police body camera video from that day." What followed was more than six minutes of clips and commentary from Segraves, but it's not until six minutes and 21 seconds into the piece that he mentions my name (mispronounced though he asked for the correct pronunciation on Zoom), "The Handbasket blog," and the RCFP's foundational role in bringing this footage to light. I was angry, but didn't feel there was much I could do.

Then I saw the version NBC4 posted to Instagram and TikTokβ€”the video itself made ZERO mention of the RCFP or my work, only briefly acknowledging it in the written caption on Instagram, and not even bothering to do that on TikTok. An average viewer with no background on the case is lead to believe that this footage was released because of your efforts. When I saw that, I decided I couldn't let this go.

It's difficult to explain what it's like to spend nearly a year working on a story only to have another reporter and outlet surreptitiously take credit for it; months of work and personal risk only to have another reporter lying in wait to swoop in. What NBC4 did was immoral, unethical, and to be frank, just truly sucked.

I just sent this email to the news director at NBC4 Washington about the unprofessional and disrespectful way they handled publishing the body camera footage of the DOGE raid on the US Institute of Peace that was obtained via my FOIA lawsuit:

Wake the fuck up and demand better from your representatives than working with MAGA

Please, tell me about what the Dems are trying to accomplishing by voting to strip due process from immigrants, or voting to strip rights from trans people, or voting to support the illegal war in Iran.

Walk me through this super complex strategy of voting with MAGA to do things they want to do.

The thing is that it isn't "a candidate" we need

We need an actual leftist party organizing at the local, state, and national level to field competitive candidates across the nation

And to do that consistently, while losing a lot, over and over every election cycle for decades to build a party

08.03.2026 23:21 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Ahh yes, the old, "support fascism and help the fascists achieve their fascist goals to stop the fascists" strategy

Real 3D chess players in the DNC with pro strats like this

Man kills hundreds of kids in his illegal war and people are actually out here bitching about him wearing a hat and it's a perfect example of why we are here right now and so totally fucked

08.03.2026 15:28 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Maybe if liberals hadn't been entirely okay with Obama doing this to kill families, kids, and doctors for years without impeaching and prosecuting him we would be in a position to actually call this out.

08.03.2026 15:20 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I planned to share my report on the body cam footage early next week when I learned that a DC news station had obtained some of the footage as a result of my lawsuit and they were going to scoop me. After working on this for a year, I couldn't let that happen. Published 2 mins before they aired :)

you all really should be paying attention to the 'who'.

Sure. But there are more registered Republicans in California than Wyoming, South Dakota, West Virginia, Idaho, Nebraska, Iowa, Utah, Louisiana, and Arkansas combined.

By far the state with the most Republicans in the US is CA.

06.03.2026 14:56 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Also worth noting that California has Republicans winning statewide races all the time. Arnold was a Republican governor, for example.

California has more Republicans than any state in the nation too, btw.

06.03.2026 14:43 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It wouldn't take a fraction of that.

In the last midterm election, Oklahoma's turnout rate was 39%.

The biggest election in the history of the state only turned out 58% of registered voters.

And that's before factoring in the 35% of the state eligible to vote but not even registered.

06.03.2026 14:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The largest base in Oklahoma, more than either party, is non-voters

It doesn't take a wild combination of circumstances, it takes a single candidate that can get the Dems and 10% of those non-voters to turn out and they will win in a landslide

06.03.2026 14:13 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I get this perspective, but it's worth noting that the TSA has a 5% success rate in testing at actually uncovering weapons and contraband.

They are a deeply unserious agency that is very bad at their job and exists only to provide security theater, not actual security.

It needs major reform.

I'm tired of people who don't want social media to be an echo chamber

I'm not coming here to try and debate a Nazi about the merits of racial purity

I'm here to surround myself with kind, compassionate, loving people and share funny memes and important news

That's an echo chamber and that's fine

How Much Would It Cost to Provide Housing First to All Households Staying in Homeless Shelters? The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization committed to preventing and ending homelessness in the United States.

Just for some perspective:

The US is spending more than $1 billion a day to fight this illegal war with Iran

By Monday, we will have spent enough money there to take every single person in a homeless shelter off the street and put them in a permanent home.

We choose to kill kids instead.

YouTube video by Brandon Sanderson We Are The Art | Brandon Sanderson’s Keynote Speech

Have you seen Sanderson talk about AI?

He talks about how he couldn't tell the difference between AI and some truly incredible writers that he loved in certain contexts. It's not lacking the capability to produce high quality if you can use it right.

But also talks about why that doesn't matter

They are interested in the end result doing the things they want it to do without spending the time and money to hire a dev to do it for them
