Oh right, not amazed; he is very much not a fan of Cromwell, or anything which puts the Reformation in a positive light. He is however a wonderful historian, as is MacCulloch, and I would pay to see a debate. ED supervised my (Protestant leaning) UG dissertation and is a lovely man, fwiw!

Who is the professor, do you know? (paywall etc etc). I heard a podcast where Diarmaid MacCulloch professed to be 'amazed' at how well Mantel knew the sources and seemed to be very largely in agreement with her position!

Hello! The letters database is one of my favourite resources on the internet; I've used it a huge amount for work and always end up falling down a rabbit hole as many of them are so genuinely entertaining!

Depends how fussed you are about where you sit. If you're not, I wouldn't bother. I haven't been a friend for a long time and always get something decent if I want it. But if you're coming from Paris especially I can understand wanting the security of it.
