Day 24: How many people do you think can't hear clearly in the UK?
The answer: 18 million adults. That's 1 in every 3 people who could benefit from captions.

NHS England has just published the updated Accessible Information Standard, which makes clear how NHS and social care services in England must provide information to blind and partially sighted people in a way they can read.
It's a step forward - here's what's improved:

Finally NHS England has published an updated AIS. This includes a sixth step – review.
We hope the changes will improve NHS accountability and we will continue to campaign to remove barriers to healthcare.

Today, SignHealth and RNID launched our new report - Still Ignored: The Fight for Accessible Healthcare -

We want governments, NHS organisations, GPs and other NHS services to take action.

As the deaf health charity we at @signhealth.bsky.social have been working with @rnid.bsky.social on our new report, Still Ignored.
Deaf people are still fighting for accessible healthcare. Many face extremely poor health outcomes as a result and this must end - no more excuses, no more barriers.
NHS staff said a lack of training, time and a poor IT system were major factors in being unable to provide these accessibility requirements for deaf people.
#WhereIsOurAccess #StillSickOfIt
View our report published today - signhealth.org.uk/in-the-news/...
A survey of more than 1,000 deaf people in England found that almost 1 in 10 had avoided calling an ambulance or attending A&E due to [barriers], and a quarter had avoided seeking help for a new health concern.

A key message: AI depends on data (quality, coverage, access, linkage) but not enough focus upon it; “data is the unsexy cousin of AI”. Vital we keep focused on AI AND data, and on ensuring the public have a voice within discussions about both.
