I think people need to learn to have more empathy and not be sacks of human shit who attack people for not following the herd mentality as sites like MAL have become a bit of an echo chamber that pushes out anyone who basically doesn't like hyper-specific things in anime (that tend to usually be hyper focused on sexual content) and aren't an incel pretty much. I am a jaded 23 year old woman that's honestly just exhausted of a lot of the behavioral trends in the community. It can be really difficult as a trans woman in this community with how much homophobia, transphobia, and misogyny is just casually blasted out under very thin veneers of plausible deniability for the politically illiterate. I am not really calling out anyone specific in particular, but there are a lot of trends of threads essentially just spouting "anti-woke" talking points that are rooted in hate and it is basically just allowed to fester with nobody there to challenge it, so i feel almost obligated to try and fight back as one of the few openly transgender users on this site as it really makes the community unsafe for queer people and women when mindsets like these are the dominant rhetoric that has consumed this site. Being on MAL has actively discouraged me from wanting to engage in anime as much as I used to due to the toxicity of the community being so much that it makes me feel a lck of wanting to engage due to not having anyone to talk to. I don't have many friends irl who watch the same things so I am rather reliant on the internet and when one of the biggest fucking anime sites has an overly toxic userbase that isn't very accepting of women and minorities, it just kills my desire to engage with new shows. It's not like this just for anime, the Star Wars community is just as bad with this shit and its part of the reason why I don't engage with new Star Wars media these days too. I feel like many women and queer people may feel similarly to me
