Drivers not only go down it the wrong way, but they drive faster! Is it because they feel like they're less likely to get caught?

On the few occasions we've challenged anyone, the response is unbelievably childish. Especially for someone who's judged themselves responsible enough to drive a 2T SUV.

It is deliberate and it is a complete failure to take responsibility.

Ours is a one-way street, intended to reduce traffic through the neighbourhood and protect kids at the nearby school and football club.

And f'ing enforce it !

My village is 30bkm/h but the average driver is well over 40, not uncommon over 50.

50 in a 30 is not an accident or a mistake but a deliberate choice to speed and risk killing kids. A deliberate choice to speed and risk smearing a 5 year old's blood over your windscreen.

I firmly believe there are people who would still be alive today if not for the government delaying the blanket 30km/hr speed limits for urban areas. More will die while we wait for local councils to act #spΓ©irgorm

Two years on – saving lives with Wales’ 20mph speed limit - PJA Two years ago, Wales became the first UK nation to introduce a default 20mph speed limit on restricted roads. Here's what the latest data shows.

Definitely. Deaths dropped by 19% (100 people) are alive in the year following the introduction in Wales.

Senedd election 2026 sees 20mph as hot topic of discussion In a valleys cafe, many believe 20mph works outside schools and hospitals but question its use elsewhere.

I'm quoted in this BBC article on Wales's 20 mph default speed limit www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... I'm even given slightly more coverage than the guy who somehow reckons not driving above 20 all the time will break your car πŸ˜•

Hopefully many of those who were so vocal before introduction won't bother again. It's pretty boring hearing "...and β€” in his view β€” less safe" all over again.

But even so, it's very hard to argue more people should be hurt or killed so you can briefly go faster between traffic lights.

I used to do it with my 1999 Volvo, leaving a note on the steering wheel, "don't open the window, it won't close again."

I did it because I flew for work a lot and the boss didn't care about the extra it cost, because it helped prevent me missing yet another flight πŸ˜‰

OK, the Gorton and Denton by-election, I have some thoughts!

Let's take a look at some of the FACTS and burst a few of the more ridiculous takes doing the rounds

But first up, can we acknowledge just what bad losers Reform are?!🀣

Right, let's get started...

Car manufacturers require more regulation.

The fact that they've released cars without buttons is a sign of putting profit over safety. That they haven't had to recall and refit is a failure of govt.

* drivers are explicitly taught not to rely on these technologies.

* manufacturers tell you not to rely on the technologies, presumably because they don't want a lawsuit.

"About 25 percent of drivers using blind spot monitoring or rear cross traffic alert systems report feeling comfortable relying solely on the systems and not performing visual checks or looking over their shoulder for oncoming traffic or pedestrians."

"About 25 percent of drivers using blind spot monitoring or rear cross traffic alert systems report feeling comfortable relying solely on the systems and not performing visual checks or looking over their shoulder for oncoming traffic or pedestrians."

Just remember, 1 in 4 of those drivers on your commute are willing to put your life in the hand of technology they don't understand, and the compliance of which is self-certified by car manufacturers.

A long, curved cycle bridge. The photo is taken from the deck of the bridge with a single pylon supporting cables. Under the bridge is water. There are two cyclists approaching. It's Nesciobrug in Amsterdam.

Staples are always the best design.

I came here with the same comment.

This looks like a good design for that reason, while also giving you another pole to lock to (that also doesn't come loose when the thing is separated from the ground).
