Willow Flycatcher flew in as I was about to pull away to leave. It's a little backlit, but I like the colors.

I took these back on June 10th but I only just recently got the chance to go through them and post them.

A Savannah Sparrow that sat still long enough for me to get a few good photos.

I FINALLY got some good close-up shots of a Dickcissel. I'm pretty happy about these.

I finally got a photo of a Bobolink. I've encountered this species in several locations this season but never close enough for decent photos. This photo isn't terrible, but it's not great either. I hope to get a better photo of both sexes soon.

More Grasshopper Sparrows

I finally got a photo of a Killdeer fluff ball along a farm road this morning. I have been trying to get a picture of one of these forever.

I finally got a photo of a Red-headed Woodpecker this summer. It's not a great photo but it's a start. Hopefully, I'll get more because their numbers seem up again this year.

Weird observation yesterday. These are two different teasel plants with two different snails. Has anyone seen something like this before?

I could be wrong, but I think the first two photos are the same individual just in different places and lighting conditions.

Father's Day was fledging day for the Northern House Wren chicks in our yard. Dad was nearby, leading them through our brush pile in search of invertebrates to eat.

Common Whitetail Dragonfly, Coshocton County, Ohio

I've always wanted to take a photo like this, so I was happy to stumble on this frog who was kind enough to sit still long enough for me to get a few shots.

I came home to find these two young Mourning Doves hanging out on my feeders. I was able to get out of my car and walk around and they just stared at me. It was like what if Hitchcock's "The Birds" met Kubrick's "The Shining."

There is a site in Licking County, Ohio that is hosting Grasshopper Sparrows, Dickcissels, and Blue Grosbeaks. Sadly, it is slated for "development" in the name of "economic progress." Here is a Grasshopper Sparrow singing there this morning.

It's funny to think that I had the longest drought for Grasshopper Sparrow sightings, and now I seem to tripping over them. I went looking for Blue Grosbeaks and found Grasshopper Sparrows instead.

I got a new camera and lens yesterday so I decided to take it for a test run today. I found a place with reliable, and cooperative, Grasshopper Sparrows, which has been one of the target species that I've been looking to get better photos of. I still have a lot to learn on this new camera though.

A Blue Jay

I had an optometrist appointment on Saturday and needed to kill some time beforehand, so I did some bird photography in a local cemetery. I was surprised to see a pair of Eastern Kingbirds hanging out there.

I was surprised to see that this juniper was already producing "berries" since it had "berries" as late as December of last year, and was picked clean by January. This Carolina Wren flew in and sang, but never ate any of the berry-like cones.

A male Northern House Wren in my backyard last week. He and his mate are working on a nest in one of the boxes I provide. He had just chased off a nosy House Sparrow that had checked out the box.

A Fox Squirrel was climbing this tree when he suddenly heard the sound of my shutter and realized he wasn't alone.

Bog, the Gray Tree Frog, decided to peek out of his frog pipe and enjoy the warmth of the morning sun this morning.
