In the 90s in France there was a cartoon anthology show called "Ça Cartoon", with a human host who would always make a point of introducing each cartoon by naming its director(s). So I was a French kid who somehow knew who Tex Avery, William Hanna, Joseph Barbera, Friz Freleng or Chuck Jones were.

I'm fascinated by Gunnerkrigg Court's decision that the REAL baddies are an evil magical girl team whose members have barely been present in the comic to this point. I wonder if we're going to get a months-long flashback explaining who the fuck this is for each of them like we did for the first one?

Last summer I read Chapter 0 (Kurapika's childhood backstory) back to back with volume 38 (which has the Phantom Troup's childhood backstory), while in the context of [current events] -- that was quite the emotional experience.

Without disagreeing with the whole thesis, I always want to bring up the nuance that sometimes, older media are more appealing because they're simpler and thus *easier to read*. A draw of SNES or PS1-era graphics is that they're much easier to decipher than modern hyper-realistic and busy graphics.
