We are a team focused on studying lung biology...realizing that our lungs, like everything else we observe, is made up of "starstuff"! University of Pennsylvania-Lung Biology Institute (LBI).

We send another Morrisey Lab alum into the wilds of academia-Dakota Jones starts his lab U Iowa later this Summer! It's been great having him the lab exploring lung fibroblast biology. Mentoring is one of our most important duties-and it's a big reason for #WhyWeScience!

That kind of skeptical, questioning, "don't accept what authority tells you" attitude of science - is also nearly identical to the attitude of mind necessary for a functioning democracy. They have very consonant values and approaches, and I don't think you can have one without the other.

So very, very true. A cautionary thought from one of our most thoughtful scientists. We need to do better.

No matter who you voted for the NIH is bipartisan and is here for you. Don’t stop now, America! So many medicines and treatments on the market today began with NIH funding. And we’re just getting warmed up! Keep it going!
