I really hate that one of the undeniable signs I’m about to be massively sick is that I start effusively praising and complimenting everyone around me. It’s like my brain knows sick is coming and gives all my final words to my friends/coworkers.

Every year when my kids start ukulele we do a month long unit on music from Hawaii/Samoa/Cook Islands and Māori music. Then we study how Hawaii was colonized and how the ukulele came to be. This year, reading this history aloud feels extra awful.

We don’t do grades, we write individual narratives for every student and it can be a very nebulous little system…but believe me there is a very different meaning if I call your child “inquisitive” vs “curious”
