Du + tār is the two-stringed dutār; se + tār is the three-stringed setār; and then there’s čārtār (four strings), pančtār (five strings). And guess where the word guitar comes from? :)

#1265 Wu Fei's Music Daily — Guzheng night song 116 古筝夜曲第一百十六号
If you’re feeling stressed out, I hope this guzheng night song improvisation brings you a moment of calm. I recorded it yesterday, thinking of the setar, a traditional Iranian string instrument.

#1261 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Delicious moons 初二的半月, 吃个肚歪
Today’s 4-track prepared #guzheng piece was inspired by the dumplings made by my parents. It’s tradition for us to eat dumplings on the 1st day of the new year. Wish y’all a healthy new year!

If you have a moment for some Alice Coltrane, driving noises, and Jeff Coffin's soothing voice, here is a video I short as Jeff drove me and @wufei.bsky.social's guzheng out of our snowed-in holler after the Nashville electricity cuts. We lost power for 10 days...

The Fisk Jubilee Singers, a group of students from the historically Black Fisk University in Nashville, toured to raise funds for their school.
Today is day 8 w/out power in our Nashville home, I’m fortunate enough to be in an Airbnb w/ my family in the neighborhood where the Fisk University is,
The nickname "Music City" for Nashville originated in 1873 when Queen Victoria heard the Fisk Jubilee Singers perform. After being moved to tears by their performance of spirituals, she remarked that they must come from a "musical city" or "Music City of the United States".

Day 7 no power in our house #Nashville Nothing stop us making new music / recording at dear friend / renowned musician Jeff Coffin’s studio.

Hope to return home soon & hope our city returns to normal soon! It’s too cold 🥶 & dangerous for people by the hours without heat!
Last 2 photos by Jeff on his way to pick us up yesterday. Charlotte Pike is a mess. Nashville Electric Service, we need your help desperately!!!
Day 4 with no power in #Nashville. Our incredible friends Jeff Coffin + Ryoko welcomed us to their home yesterday — picked up my whole family of 6 from our frozen driveway. Ryoko & my parents enjoyed writing Chinese & Japanese calligraphy together.
We’re blessed for having such amazing friends🙏
We survived the first night, and the first day starts! Mom and dad are hanging in there! @goldkorn.bsky.social has been making delicious meals to keep us healthy. Still no power.

@nashseverewx.com Charlotte Pike between Sawyer Brown & 70 S stretch. Trees continue to falling. Broken branches sitting on power lines. It took 20 mins wait time to get through 911 about 1.5 hr ago when I called at 8:30am. Still waiting for them to come. #NashvilleIceStorm2026

Q: Why do people fear daily practices more than failure?
A: Practice removes excuses and exposes limits. Failure can be blamed on luck. But practice forces you to face yourself everyday.
Q: Why do people hide insecurity behind ego?
A: Because ego protects what skill has not earned.
Got to watch the jazz students’ rehearsal led by Prof. Ryan Middagh, director of Jazz Studies at Blair. They will be joining me on a couple of songs. I can’t think of a better way to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Fire Horse 2026 with my talented #Nashville homies ❤️

20.01.2026 23:12 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0In this recording, I stood my Guzheng up & sang into the sound hole. You can hear the long harmonic reverb created by the vibration of my voice resonating through the wooden body. If you have an instrument—a piano, guitar, cello or anything with sound holes —try singing into the holes.

#1256 Wu Fei’s Music Daily — Thirty-mile village 三十里铺的回音壁
I recorded this Chinese folk song today, called “Thirty-mile Village” (三十里铺) from Shaanxi province. My parents used to sing it a lot at home & my father would change the lyrics to sound funny.
