It should be very very clear to everyone right now that the Attorney General was asked under oath if she possesses pics of the President with undressed teens and she refused to say β€œno.”

Not a single lie detected in anything that Zelda Williams said.

(And no, it doesn't matter how much you loved her dad and his work. Leave her the fuck alone, and keep your parasocial bullshit to yourself.)

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me πŸ‘ŒWe’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Damn. This is amazing. Β£325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

And I just… we could do this. We could afford to do this, as a country. There is no good fucking reason why we cannot do this. We simply choose not to because we believe that Jesus loves billionaires more than loser slothful creative people

Great example of the use-an-entire-phrase-as-a-word phenomenon.

Took me a couple of reads to parse this one!

Today, ICE agents kidnapped people who were working on the roof of a house in my neighborhood. That’s the closest to home it’s been for me, quite literally. Fuck ICE.

One thing that comes through awfully clearly in these ICE videos is how many of these goons gravitated toward the job because being able to assault people with impunity is a big thrill for them.

I mean, β€œno living persons on the stamps or the money” is not that obscure! It’s one of the β€œwe’re not a monarchy” signals. (Or a dictatorship, which is just monarchy with fewer manners and less of a pedigree.)

Jane Goodall was my first childhood hero, as I loved animals as a kid and was inspired by her story. I still remember the National Geographic specials about her. RIP.

I have to remind people multiple times a year that Clinton got three million more votes than Trump and the Electoral College is the reason she wasn't president.

Commentary from outlets saying it’s necessary for a president to have Irish yet never reporting on the Gaeltacht housing crisis or underinvestment into the language is giving tokenism. You want a president who can perform Irishness, not a president who platforms language rights

I have learnt today that my library refers to me as 'the specific and highly active user' and has denied some of my purchase requests because 'we can't skew the collection too much toward the taste of the specific and highly active user.
I did suggest roughly 100 vampire books for purchase last year. I think this probably has something to do with that.

One reblog from dragon-in-a-fez, Sep 20.
OP is there any particular reason the librarians would feel safer not invoking you by name

Am I the only one who pronounces "quixotic" as /kiΛˆΙ‘tΙͺk/ ?

I just watched a video where someone kept pronouncing it /kwΙͺkˈsΙ‘tΙͺk/ and I was irritated.

But then I looked it up, and apparently I'm the wrong one! Wiktionary calls my preferred pronunciation "rare"

But...it comes from "Don Quixote" !!

"Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."

hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.

We don't know what the jobs or technology of the future will look like, which is why education should not be job-prep, it should be learning how to be critical thinkers.

Teaching students to use AI is the opposite of teaching them to think critically.

Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job.
AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society and our descendants will be digging it out for generations:

Maron is someone who really embodies that β€œnice vs kind” distinction, to me. He’s often brusque, even mean. Kind people are mad as hell a lot of the time, at least the ones I know. Nice people continue to blithely scurry over bodies.

A lot of people think that every international student admitted means one fewer spot for domestic students, when the opposite is more likely true - the tuition revenue international students bring allows public universities to provide substantial discounts to domestic students, improving access.

it's not immigration enforcement if they're not even checking whether the people they harass, injure, and kidnap are immigrants!

It's terrorism.
