Izzo with some positive words from his trip to Detroit to watch Jase Richardson and Orlando play the Pistons, particularly sitting and talking with Jaden Akins - who is with Pistons' G League team - and what he sees with this MSU team.

Tom Izzo says Jonathan Smith "is a good football mind, and I don't think anyone questioned his character and integrity." Said he "hates what happened" to Smith being fired but says both coaches understand it with the profession they are in.

Izzo on his message to MSU football players: "If you came here for the right reasons, there's a reason I haven't left. I'm here for the right reasons. ... It was to try and build something with a group of people in an environment I think is blue-collar & about what's right in the world."
