Democrat, fervent but terrible gardener, occasional baker, apparent klutz, professional viola player. I read Michelle Obama's Becoming and took from it that hope is a moral imperative. I grapple daily to maintain hope for our world--don't give up!

Many are calling for Chuck Schumer's resignation. What hasn't been reported until now is that any Senate Democrat can offer a motion to challenge his leadership position, and it would have to get a vote within 7 days. From @whitneycwimbish.bsky.social:

Yesterday, when Bovino announced ICE would be returning to Little Village today, some of us donated and fundraised to buy out street vendors in the neighborhood. This morning, volunteers hit the streets at 6:30 am, looking for vendors to buy out. Tamales make an excellent breakfast.

Standing up to a tyrant - who is willing to impose pain as leverage to compel loyalty or acquiescence - is hard. You can convince yourself that yielding stops the pain and brings you back to "normal".
But there is no "normal". Submission emboldens the tyrant. The threat grows.
The 1930s taught us what appeasement gets you: a stronger enemy and a weaker democracy. Some of todayβs Dems still havenβt learned it. You donβt bargain with extremists holding peopleβs livelihoods hostage. You hold the damn line. #HistoryRepeats

In response to this claim that the "strategy didn't work."
The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.
And giving in now will embolden him. Things will likely get worse.
Listen Kaine, Hassan, King, Cortez-Masto, Durbin, Shaheen, Rosen, and Fetterman. You're NOT gonna take away my 2025 election joy. We voted in that election for folks to FIGHT for us. That doesn't include YOU.
YOU are what we voted AGAINST last Tuesday. So I'm gonna hang on to that.
Letβs take John Fetterman. AIPAC funded. Got elected by the people. Immediately began working for his funders after his election by the people. Stopped working for the people altogether.

The Trump administration is setting a dangerous precedent.
The world is watching this administration's attempts to limit our constitutional and human rights.
Trump has threatened to bomb or invade 7 countries with a shot to play in the 2026 World Cup. He *has* bombed one (Iran) and said he'd deny them visas. He's preparing for war with another (Venezuela). He has summarily executed citizens from at least 3. He has imposed tariffs on nearly all of them.
