When I want to skip a scene while coding, I add some filler lines and I forgot one before sending the files to my teammate 🥲

I end up feeling guilty and lacking even though I did set a clear boundary. It's important to take a moment and remember that just because our accomodation needs are different, it doesn't mean that we are lacking. Our brains work differently and people who really love you will respect that!

So I found it really beneficial to just tell my loved ones that I'll need to be at home nonstop for a couple of weeks and not invite me to places until second notice. It usually helps but some of them are still trying and feel annoyed when I say no.

Since my brain works in bursts and not usually at times I want it to, I don't have my evenings free by default. I really need to plan things with other people ahead of the time. Also, if I have a plan for the evening, I usually have a lot of trouble working in the morning due to "waiting mode".

Having ADHD and working for yourself is a delicate balance. It's really difficult to explain to your loved ones why you can't just "step out for a coffee" and then go back to work. The moment I go through a threshold, my brain resets and I have to do hours of mental work to concentrate again.

I usually look at the jam’s theme and try to develop something from scratch, however small, to submit. I enjoy the creative environments of game jams and challenging myself with stuff I wouldn’t normally go for.

for anyone else having issues with spam comments on itchio, here's custom css i'm testing to hide any comments that have links in them:

It took almost 3-4 years of treatment before the way I experienced life turned into a net positive but boy was it worth the work. If you are suspecting you have ADHD (or autism etc.) and you worry that it’s too late for you to turn things around, I promise you it’s not. Go get that diagnosis! 🌻

I have been working on our game for 2 and half years now. That is 2 years more than anything I spent time on. I feel so proud of all the work I did. Being proud of my hard work was something I could never feel. I’d never experienced working hard on something and having results of that hard work.

One of the interesting things about being diagnosed with ADHD later in life is that you get to experience some new feelings that you thought was impossible for you to feel.

I mean it is already amazing that a three year old thinks about these things because I had 30 years longer than her and this is the first time I ever thought about it. :')

My first thought was "like fish!", then I remembered my childhood trauma of having goldfish and watching them poop constantly and my answer is "magic"! Otherwise you'll also have to ask the questions regarding their procreation and the world's not ready for that.
