I'm autistic. Trump and RFK Jr. must stop treating us like a plague to be eradicated. Evidence for Trump's Tylenol claim is weak. Yet no prior administration has cared less about what either autism experts or autistic people have to say

This article from ASAN's Executive Director Colin Killick talks about how policies and misinformation from the Trump administration hurt and ignore autistic people. www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

The biggest hurdle to Trump's Medicaid work requirements: the war on disabled workers The White House is telling Medicaid users to get jobsโ€”while attacking everything that makes that possible.

Donald Trump wants people to work for their Medicaidโ€”but he's making it even harder for disabled and chronically ill people to find accessible jobs.

This is eugenicist language. Autism is a neurotype that has existed forever.

This is the same eugenicist language used in Bell v. Buck (1927), a yet-to-be overturned SCOTUS decision that legalised involuntary sterilisation of disabled and neurodivergent people in the US.

167. The Inconsistent Court Strikes Again Comparing Monday's unexplained grant of emergency relief in the Department of Education downsizing case to how the justices handled President Biden's student loan program is ... telling.

My quick take on Monday afternoon's unexplained #SCOTUS ruling in the Department of Education downsizing caseโ€”and how the justices' inconsistent treatment of the (similarly postured) student loan cases during the Biden administration illustrates in technicolor why the Court needs to explain itself:

11th Circuit Rules Trans Teacher Must Misgender Herself In Classroom In Accordance With FL Law The ruling by Trump-appointed judges contradicts other classroom speech cases and is a clear case of the state barring disfavored speech, according to the dissent.

1. In a devastating ruling out of the 11th Circuit, a trans female teacher will be forced to use "Mr." in the classroom in accordance with Florida law.

Trump appointed judges ruled that this is not somehow a first amendment violation.

The dissent is scathing.

This ruling isnโ€™t about freedom or inclusivity. There is no freedom in a classroom where queer families are erased. There is no inclusivity for preschoolers who are separated from their peers during storytime. This decision will promote fear, close minds, and exclude countless Americans from their school communities. It is also certain to lead to โ€œsoft censorshipโ€ โ€“ where there will be no need to โ€œopt outโ€ of specific books because they will not make it to the shelves, read-alouds, or lessons in the first place.

This is a dangerous path, one that teaches our elementary students to be threatened by their classmates, to fear their friendsโ€™ families, their teachers, and our wide, diverse world. Justice Sotomayor said it clearly in her dissent: "The harm will not be borne by educators alone: Children will suffer too."

Securing appropriate accommodations is likely going to become more difficult as universities and colleges reduce their diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility practices under the threat of losing federal funding from the Trump administration.

Federal Court Rules In Favor of Forcibly Detransitioning Transgender Inmates In Florida Incarcerated transgender people were a major topic of debate in the 2024 elections. Now, a judge ruling on a Florida policy shows how cruel abandoning trans people in prison can be.

A federal court has ruled that Florida can detransition inmates.

Some trans inmates are having estrogen pulled, hair shorn, and put through state-run conversion therapy.

This is the cruelty of abandoning incarcerated trans people.
