PHOENIX – Representative Junelle Cavero commended school staff and students in her district for their quick actions today that resulted in two students being detained by Phoenix Police for bringing a firearm onto campus. A student at Sunland STEAM Academy, a K-8 school in the Roosevelt School District in South Phoenix, tipped off school officials. No one was threatened or harmed as the school was placed on a temporary lockdown and the weapon confiscated, according to a district statement. "Our community is exceptionally grateful to the student who saw something and bravely said something. That helped avoid a potentially dangerous situation," Cavero said. "The quick reaction by staff and Phoenix Police, and the care shown for students and staff who needed additional support afterwards, should also be commended."

Good morning! We just stopped a bad bill to map out state lands to be consumed by water and electricity-hogging data centers. Republicans rejected @LorenaAustin4Az’s amendment to inform residents of how much energy and water nearby data centers are using and how much it’s increasing your costs.

On a positive note, we just killed a bad bill sponsored by “conservative” Republican Matt Gress that would needlessly expand government with a new agency to make services for the unhoused more complicated and harder to access.

We’re going all night. The House has been voting since 6:30 pm (after debating since 10:30 am). A little while ago Republicans added another 75 bills to the third read agenda so just 156 more to go! None of these are Democratic bill, btw, and a good chunk were vetoed last session.

House Democrats stand with Arizona teachers, organized labor and for workplace rights. HCR2040 is a partisan Republican attack on all of that. Arizona voters are smart and will reject this if it’s on the November ballot.

House Democrats are fighting to protect the mental health of Arizona students, which, unfortunately, Republicans have decided is worth stripping as a requirement in their curriculum.

Who wrote this bill, a measle? MAHA Rep. Lisa Fink’s HB2248 would make it harder for schools to send kids home if they have lice or other illnesses. Rep Nancy Gutierrez fights through interruptions to point out the absurdity.

Rep. Lorena Austin’s amendment to HB4009 would have informed residents on how much water and energy data centers near them use, and how much it will increase their costs. Anti-transparency and anti-affordability Republicans of course voted no.
