IT / tech people are trying to change their place in business by forcing their way into the driver's seat. The reality is, they're a support group, not the focus of corporate America - & they hate not being the focus. But how smart are you to sink time & money into things no one wantsbir asked for?

I've had similar problems with people in IT in my company, just at a smaller scale. They created a tool to automate a process that no one was doing, so it had no real practical application. We had meetings about it for months, until a guy & I both asked why they built a thing that no one asked for.

They're just trying to justify creating something they thought was cool & sank a bunch of money into, but had little practical use for the people who didn't ask for it. They think they're the smartest people in any room, but they really have zero business sense. "Cool" doesn't usually mean "useful".

This is a good analogy. Very useful in carefully controlled settings for specific usages, but unfortunately being widely inserted into everything and used without training or PPE and poisoning a lot of things and people and we’re going to pay a tonne of money to remove it safely in the future
