I was told two things this week that have been following me around for forever:
My boss said that I ought to write a book - which is something people have been saying to me since 2008.
And a coworker told me today I should be a therapist - which is something people have said to me all my life.

the thing about how online is structured these days is that you are, by its very nature, going to end up in some kind of echo chamber

couple qualifications on this ~
- the shortage is not affecting potash right now, but diff fertilizers serve diff purposes. corn, for instance, needs both nitrogen AND potash
- piece focuses not on food *shortages* but how this will affect big cash crops ie corn, soybeans

There used to be an old sign by the path, warning passers-by of the local sleeping willow, which would trap the unwary with fatigue, engulf them while they slept, and release them a hundred years later.
There was a new sign:
"This sleeping willow is full."
And a map of other locations to try.
IT / tech people are trying to change their place in business by forcing their way into the driver's seat. The reality is, they're a support group, not the focus of corporate America - & they hate not being the focus. But how smart are you to sink time & money into things no one wantsbir asked for?
05.03.2026 14:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've had similar problems with people in IT in my company, just at a smaller scale. They created a tool to automate a process that no one was doing, so it had no real practical application. We had meetings about it for months, until a guy & I both asked why they built a thing that no one asked for.
05.03.2026 14:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0They're just trying to justify creating something they thought was cool & sank a bunch of money into, but had little practical use for the people who didn't ask for it. They think they're the smartest people in any room, but they really have zero business sense. "Cool" doesn't usually mean "useful".
05.03.2026 14:00 β π 5 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0This is a good analogy. Very useful in carefully controlled settings for specific usages, but unfortunately being widely inserted into everything and used without training or PPE and poisoning a lot of things and people and weβre going to pay a tonne of money to remove it safely in the future

05.03.2026 02:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now, I'm a realist, but I also understand how people generally work. Human nature is constant, as is biological instinct. Our brains are wired to focus on the negative, rather than the positive. Which means that, realistically, things are often better than what we want to believe they are.
