Can Trump do a deal with Putin on Ukraine? The Kremlin is signalling that it is ready to talk to the incoming US administration. But Trump may find Russia’s terms make him look unacceptably weak.

Putin’s highest priority for talks with Trump will be to ensure Ukraine’s neutrality. This will require a commitment by Western governments to Russia that Ukraine will not join NATO in the foreseeable future.
