SC1 probably marked the end of arcade dominance and the beginning of modern console fighting games.

Fighting games are still popular today but SC1 is still Metacritic's #2 game of all time. You'd never see a fighting game in GOTY conversations today.

The same thing kinda happened to racing and flying games. Those genres used to be seen as technological flagships.

It is for sure the best one, I rewatched a month ago and came to the same conclusion. Despite the lore and complexity of the others this feels like the one that expands the world of the matrix by placing it in the view of regular folk occupying that world.
