Right now I'm watching him from across the room, it's been about 50 minutes since I gave him meds to help his pain and labored breathing. A social worker/nurse left about 10 minutes ago. She told us that he's transitioning. I'm gonna check his BP and O2 in a moment.

It's gonna be a rough few days.

We didn't always have the same taste in movies but he made the effort to find movies he thought we'd both like. He even respected my wish to never watch Titanic. At the same time, I discovered that I liked some movies that I had no previous interest in. Who knew I'd love all the Bourne movies?

When baseball season was over, we continued watching TV together and chatting. We watched The Price is Right everyday as he did with his wife and he loved home renovation shows, especially Fixer Upper.

While taking care of his mother, I also became closer to my husband's father. I used to hate baseball but I found myself watching all of the Dodgers games with him before and continuing after his wife passed, and we cheered them on as they won the pennant and then the world series.

We've been living with my in-laws for over 10 years and it's been really rocky at times. But as my mother-in-law declined in health, I was her primary caregiver at home. I'm the process, I became more close to her. I spent much more time with both parents, when previously, I would keep to myself.

For the second time in less than 6 months I am taking care of an in-law as they near the end of their lives. This time, my husband's father.

With the changes of highs and lows, and even lower, I would've thought I'd lose patience with them. Turns out my patience has grown exponentially each time.
