UBI, to me, is about empowering everyone to pursue their plans, dreams, and potential.

Indeed. I think basic income can be correctly seen as a tool to make it easier for everybody to follow through on their plans dreams.

UBI isn't just about poverty.

First, let me set your mind at ease. I've seen the eleven joke. It's hilarious. Sorry for not acknowledging it sooner.

Second, UBI defines a mechanism, not an amount. $1/yr qualifies if it's delivered as a UBI. $1K/yr is small, and not the only thing I'd push for, but...

NIT is better than welfare as we know it. UBI is a better mechanism to accomplish NIT.

Saying "NIT is better than UBI" suggests that you don't fully understand how at least one of them works.

So in the end, a UBI and NIT can have the exact same theoretical outcomes and net money flows, except in practice the NIT would miss a bunch of people, introduce a lot of extra bureaucracy, and cost more to get less done.
