What hopes do you have for a future where everyone has a basic income?

"I would love to see a renaissance of art and music that romanticizes the positive aspects of what it means to be human, to wonder, to explore, to evolve, and to love."

How would it impact your day-to-day routine, your dreams, or your finances?

If $1000 isn’t quite the right figure for you, what amount of #BasicIncome would be ideal? We want to hear your thoughts.

I believe in UBI because I believe in you.

Yes, you.

How would these UBI proposals work out for you and your household?

UBI, to me, is about empowering everyone to pursue their plans, dreams, and potential.

...plans *and dreams...

15.07.2025 18:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Indeed. I think basic income can be correctly seen as a tool to make it easier for everybody to follow through on their plans dreams.

UBI isn't just about poverty.

It's really about power.

What's UBI's relationship to capitalism, in your opinion?

I can't decide whether your understanding of "incredibly polite" is more or less uninformed than your understanding of the mechanism UBI.

Thank you for the correction.

However, I think I've given you enough of time and benefit of the doubt at this point. I don't see this becoming an intellectually honest, or civil, conversation at this point. Best of luck to you.

This would diffray the extra price at the pump seen by consumers at lower incomes.

So then perhaps a policy that in France resulted in millions of yellow vests protesting in the streets might actually have a chance, because it wouldn't be trying to fight climate change on the backs of the poor.

... consider what the carbon tax example suggests.

Assuming we did a moderate carbon tax to help reduce pollution, the revenue could be used, instead of for other government programs, to give a dividend back to the American people of $1,000/yr.

...

First, let me set your mind at ease. I've seen the eleven joke. It's hilarious. Sorry for not acknowledging it sooner.

Second, UBI defines a mechanism, not an amount. $1/yr qualifies if it's delivered as a UBI. $1K/yr is small, and not the only thing I'd push for, but...

NIT is better than welfare as we know it. UBI is a better mechanism to accomplish NIT.

Saying "NIT is better than UBI" suggests that you don't fully understand how at least one of them works.

08.07.2025 11:43 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

So in the end, a UBI and NIT can have the exact same theoretical outcomes and net money flows, except in practice the NIT would miss a bunch of people, introduce a lot of extra bureaucracy, and cost more to get less done.
